Watch: Eric Omondi cracks up Kenyans in recent imitation of Health CS Mutahi Kagwe’s press briefings

Too much has been said about music artistes – who we appreciate – but it is now time to shift gear to our comedians.

Esteemed Kenyan comedian, Eric Omondi was not going to loose his trademark nor down his tools in the face of the hard-hitting novel Coronavirus.

Taking to his social media pages, the entertainer mimicked Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe’s daily briefings.

Kenya’s Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe

The Parody

It starts off by Eric walking towards the lectern with the necessary officials while discussing a couple of issues.

We hear him call one of the individuals on his left, donning a white coat, as ‘daktari’.

Eric addressed as ‘Mutai Kagi’ seems pretty frustrated by the current conditions around COVID-19 in Kenya.

‘Aaa.. good afternoon, sorry good morning..’ he opens his speech. He literally imitates the Health CS, not just in his words, but in his facial expressions and body movements as well.

Kenyans we have requested you to take personal responsibility and some of us clearly do not understand the density and seriousness of this epidemic or pandemic.

Making mistakes severally, calling out ‘disobedient’ and ‘ignorant’ Kenyans, it is easy to mistake the comedian for the Health CS – only difference is he is not officially dressed.

Case in point

It gets interesting when ‘Mutai Kagi’ mentions one such case of a Kenyan defying the government’s directives to stay at home and self-quarantine and it turns out, it is Eric Omondi.

The ‘disobedient’ individual takes up the names ‘Kevin Otieno’. Kevin looks pretty youthful, with his cap waved to the side, bling chain hanging on his neck and shrugging his shoulders.

Mr Mutai makes those silent poses in between his speech, just to emphasize on the seriousness of this disease.

Pretty disappointed, ‘CS Mutai’ bangs his pen on the lectern, at times folding his mouth before putting on that serious look.

Comedian, Eric Omondi

He takes two questions from the press before shedding light on the issue of lock down.

Lockdown here, lockdown there, and Kenyans have been demanding the government to give them a lockdown, daktari, yah? And I’ve seen it on the WhatsApp, I’ve seen it on the Internets of this world. On the Twitters. But the response of the government is one, the government is asking Kenyans ‘Tukiwapea lockdown, mtawezana?’

Mr Mutai folds his papers before walking away with his ‘team’ making fun of Kevin and his ability to engage 26 plus women in less than 48 hours.

Mixed reactions

This has left Kenyans cracking their ribs, at just how impeccably the comedian has perfected his skills.
