In an interview with Amina Rabar on NTV’s The Trend four years ago, Vera addressed the topic after a photo surfaced showing her with darker skin. Many speculated that her skin-lightening procedure had backfired. Vera clarified that her treatment was reversible, allowing her to switch from light to dark skin.
“Never be defined by your past. It feels good to be back; black don’t crack,” Vera stated, questioning why Kenyans made such a fuss about her appearance.
“Personally, I feel like my body is my business. I got to a point where I just wanted to be me. Some people said, ‘Oh, she is broke, she can’t afford to maintain herself,’ but that’s not the case.”
She admitted to undergoing a bleaching treatment and shared her experience of being trolled for her choices. “Personally, I just feel amazing. When I posted that picture, everyone said, ‘Ew, it’s bad, we want your light skin back,'” Vera recounted.
