Last week, a postmortem was conducted, and on Friday, November 1, the cause of her passing was confirmed. A friend, Naomi Kuria, shared:
“Hello friends, here is the verified update on Brenda Gatwiri’s passing. May her soul continue resting in peace.”
A poster remembering Gatwiri conveyed:
“UPDATE ON GATWIRI’S DEMISE
Following the unexpected loss of our beloved friend, sister, and thespian BREDA GATWIRI, a postmortem was carried out to determine the cause of her passing. On Friday, October 30, 2024, pathologists at Kenyatta University Funeral Home, alongside her family, found that Gatwiri passed due to positional asphyxia with brain edema. A toxicology report is pending to rule out any possible poisoning or intoxication. Her burial date will be communicated soon by her family.
Rest In Peace, Gatwiri.”
Positional asphyxia with brain edema, according to ScienceDirect, occurs when a person’s body position restricts their ability to breathe, potentially leading to compromised gas exchange, immobility, and the exclusion of other natural or violent causes. The Cleveland Clinic notes that causes may include allergic reactions, drowning, or airway obstructions, with symptoms like difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and inability to speak.
