Three Counties to Experience Power Outage on Friday

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced that three counties will experience a power outage on Friday, August 4, 2023. The outage is expected to last for more than eight hours and is part of routine network maintenance.

The affected counties are Homabay, Nyeri, and Kilifi. In Homabay, the affected areas include Rangwe, Oneno, Omoya, Ndiru, Manyatta, Onyege, Onjonyo, Imbo Ogande, Kabunde Airstrip, Dr Mbai, Bishop Ochiel Otaro Secondary School, Masakla Primary School, and Onyenge. Other places within the same county include Oluso Secondary School, Namba Nyokai, and adjacent customers.

In Nyeri, the affected areas are Chinga, Ruruguti, and Kariko. More places within Nyeri County that the power blackout will hit include St Thomas Primary School, Othaya Girls’, Munani Estate, Gitundu Village, Chinga Tea Factory, Demka Diaries, Gathambari TBC, Gathanji Market, Chinga Girls High School, Chinga Boys High School, Kianguru Village, Gicici Market, Kiinu Primary, Kariko Market, Mucharage, Kianguru TBC, Kogongo Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), and adjacent customers.

In Kilifi County, the affected areas are Kikambala, Bodoi, Sun and Sand Hotel, Fairdeal Park, Kikambala Catholic, Kikambala Primary, and Swati Investments. Others include Umbrella Steel, Blue Sky, Awale Farm, Kikambala Stage, Bodoi Stage, Salwa Kenya, Bodoi Kwa Ng’ombe, Bodoi Primary, Bodoi Village, Kikambala Town, and adjacent customers.

KPLC has advised customers in the affected areas to take precautionary measures and to conserve energy during the outage. The company has also apologized for any inconvenience caused.

This is not the first time that KPLC has announced power outages in recent months. In January 2023, three counties were listed as those that would be affected by power outages. The three counties included Nyeri, Nandi, and Nyamira.

KPLC has attributed the power outages to routine network maintenance. However, some customers have expressed concerns about the frequency of the outages. They have also asked KPLC to improve its communication with customers about the outages.
