Denis Okari has opened up about his past marriage to media personality Betty Kyallo, candidly sharing his regrets and the lessons he learned from the experience.
During a conversation with Kathy, Okari bluntly stated, “Nobody really cares about your story; you’re just entertainment on social media.” He then delved into his relationship with Betty, expressing remorse over how it ended and describing it as a marriage that was not divinely blessed.
How It All Began
Okari recounted how his career journey led him to meet Betty. After seeking divine guidance through prayer, he landed a job interview at Radio Maisha. However, the interview panel instead offered him a position at KTN, where he first crossed paths with Betty, who was then an intern aspiring to become a news anchor.
“We became very close friends, and to cut a long story short, our friendship evolved into a relationship,” he said. “Eventually, we had a child, and I had to face the reality of that situation. It wasn’t what I had planned, but I had to make a decision.”
After discussing the matter with his parents, Okari chose to move forward with Betty, stating, “Every girl dreams of having a wedding, so I thought, why not make it official?”
Rushed into Marriage
Reflecting on the wedding, Okari admitted it happened too quickly.
“It was so fast,” he sighed. “To be honest, I wish I never did it. But I went through with it out of good intentions—to try and correct a wrong. We had a child out of wedlock, and in my mind, marriage was the next step. I had seen it work for my parents, so I thought it was the right thing to do. But deep down, something didn’t feel right. I didn’t consult God, and I didn’t realize that two wrongs don’t make a right.”
The Marriage Falls Apart
Okari revealed that despite his efforts, things began to unravel.
“As fate would have it, we started drifting apart. A lot of things started coming out, and I found myself caught in the crossfire of public scrutiny. But deep inside, I was struggling with a bigger question—was this marriage of God? I couldn’t answer that.”
The public attention became overwhelming, and Okari withdrew from social media and the limelight. Seeking clarity, he turned to God for guidance regarding divorce.
“God told me to step away from social media for a year. So, I deleted all my platforms and took time to heal,” he shared.
Finding Healing
Okari admitted that he fell into depression but ultimately found healing through serving God.
“That marriage was not of God. She was not truly my wife, and I was not truly her husband. It was never meant to be,” he concluded.
