Tate brothers charged with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organized crime group
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate, his brother Tristan, and two associates have been charged in Romania with rape, human trafficking, and forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women.
The Tate brothers were first arrested in December 2022 at their home in Bucharest. They were later moved from custody to house arrest.
The indictment alleges that the four defendants formed an organized criminal group in 2021 to commit human trafficking in Romania, as well as in the United States and the United Kingdom. Seven alleged victims are named in the indictment, who were allegedly recruited by the Tate brothers through false promises of love and marriage.
The accused also had assets seized, including properties, cars, and more than $300 million in cryptocurrency.
The trial is not expected to start immediately, and is likely to take several years. A Romanian judge now has 60 days to inspect the case files before it can be sent to trial.
A spokesperson for Andrew Tate said that the brothers and their associates “embrace the opportunity to demonstrate their innocence.”
There are also separate charges still under investigation, which could lead to a separate indictment, including money laundering and trafficking of minors.
Andrew Tate is a British-American former kickboxer who gained notoriety online for his controversial views on women and social media bans. He has been accused of promoting violence against women and of being a misogynist.
Tristan Tate is a professional boxer and mixed martial artist. He has also been accused of promoting violence against women.
The charges against the Tate brothers and their associates are serious, and the trial is likely to be closely watched.
