Baengele clan of the Bukusu sub-tribe will use rituals to identify the exact burial site for Yvonne Wamalwa. The burial committee had indicated that the deceased would be laid to rest on Saturday February 3rd.
According to the funeral programme, a requiem mass for Yvonne is set for Thursday February 1st at Consolata Shrine in Westlands.
The body will taken back to her Karen residence for an overnight stay after the requiem mass. The deceased will then be flown to Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, on Friday.
Tasked to identify exact burial spot
Yvonne is expected to be buried close to her late husband’s grave. Baengele clan elders will decide the exact burial spot after performing some rituals.
“We are not very certain on the spot but it will be next to the late vice president’s graveyard. Some elders have been tasked to decide the exact place after performing some rituals,” said Charles Kisembe, the clan chairman.
Reports that Yvonne Wamalwa will be accorded state funeral has rubbed Chris Wamalwa the wrong way. The Kiminini MP says these are last attempts by Jubilee government to save face.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was among first Kenyans to mourn the death of Yvonne Wamalwa. Several top government officials also sent their condolences.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa blames Jubilee government for pretending to care about Yvonne Wamalwa. The lawmaker says Kibaki regime gave Yvonne a job but Jubilee government quickly sacked her upon ascending to power.
Chris Wamalwa was speaking on Sunday during a meeting in Kitale were he said that it was not right for Jubilee MPs to purport that Yvonne died while still office.
It was reported that until her death Yvonne was a deputy director in the Foreign Affairs ministry’s Asia and Australia Directorate.
“President Mwai Kibaki appointed our departed sister as an ambassador. But when Jubilee took over, she was sacked. Yvonne died a poor woman. Because of her poor status, she could not afford medication and that is why she decided to go and stay with her sister in Nanyuki,” Chris Wamalwa was quoted by the Star.
Things would have been much better
Chris Wamalwa says Yvonne would be in a position to afford good medication if she hadn’t been sacked. He further stated that Jubilee government should have honored her by retaining her in the position Kibaki appointed her to.
“The government should have honoured this woman by retaining her in the position Kibaki appointed her to. It is so painful that she just died like that. We stand with the family during this difficult moment as we join hands in ensuring she gets a dignified send-off,” said Chris Wamalwa.
Meanwhile a requiem mass for Yvonne Wamalwa will be held this coming Thursday. The deceased will be flown to Kitale on Friday before being laid to rest on Saturday at her late husband’s Milimani home, Kitale.
The body of the late Yvonne Wamalwa was transferred to Nairobi from Nanyuki in an ordinary hearse. Earlier plans to airlift the body to the city were aborted due to logistics.
Yvonne Wamalwa died on Thursday morning at Nanyuki Cottage hospital. The deceased was rushed to the hospital after developing complications.
Upon her death Yvonne Wamalwa was staying with her sister Stephanie Muite. She was being treated for an undisclosed ailment at the Outspan Hospital in Nyeri since October 2017.
Police assistance
Stephanie Muite sought police assistance to transport the body of her sister to Nairobi. Police escorted the hearse ferrying the remains of Yvonne Wamalwa from Nanyuki to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Yvonne Wamalwa died while undergoing treatment at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital. She had moved to Nanyuki to stay with her sister who was taking care of her.
The wife to former vice president Kijana Wamalwa had be ailing since October 2017. Yvonne was staying with her sister Stephanie Muite at Ichuga in the outskirts of Nanyuki town.
Stephanie Muite has since narrated her sister’s last moments before she passed on. She said her conditioned worsened on Thursday morning while she was at home with her.
No specific ailment
Ms Muite however did not specify the nature of her sister’s ailment. She said Yvonne Wamalwa was rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital where she died.
“We have been staying with Yvonne at my home at Ichuga Village since October last year and she has been [going to] Outspan Hospital in Nyeri Town for treatment. This morning her conditioned worsened and she passed on at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital,” said Stephanie Muite.
Yvonne’s body remained at the hospital for five hours before it was loaded into a hearse and taken to Nanyuki Police Station. Police escorted the hearse carrying Yvonne’s body to Nairobi where it was taken to Lee Funeral Home.
She has left behind a young family of 2 kids Derrick Mboya and Michelle Chichi behind. So far nothing concerning her health has been reported but her family is set to release reports about her burial.
Friends and family send their condolences
Those close to the Wamalwa’s family have sent out their condolences to the family during this hard time.
