Swaleh Mdoe says doctors gave up on his late dad

Citizen TV news anchor Swaleh Mdoe lost his dad Ali Buki after battling throat cancer for a long time.

In an interview with Word Is, the Swahili news anchor shared that his dad’s condition was so bad that doctors lost hope and discharged him.

“My dad has been sick for some time now. A few months ago, he was moved from Mombasa where he stays and was taken to Malindi to stay with his elder sister,” Mdoe said.

Memories

Mdoe’s dad died on Sunday afternoon at around 12:40 PM. He was buried yesterday.

“He has been in Malindi, it reached a point where the doctors gave up on him and discharged him even before he was fully recovered. Since then he has been receiving treatment from home and on Sunday is when my aunt called me and broke the news that he passed on,” he said.

Mdoe says he will treasure the memory of his dad forever.

“I will remember him as my dad, but I have no words to specifically remember him with but being a father is the most important thing despite the weakness he had.”

Tafakari ya babu! Why Citizen’s Swaleh Mdoe has been demoted

Popular Swahili news anchor Swaleh Mdoe has been demoted from managing editor for Swahili services at Royal Media Services because of misconduct at work.

According to Business Today who broke the story, Mdoe, a veteran in the media industry, will be replaced by Jamila Mohammed who just resigned at Nation Media Group.

Deep in debt might be the reason

It’s not a secret Mdoe is knee-deep in debt and is looking for different ways to pay as auctioneers stay glued on his heels. Recently, his Mercedes Benz C200 was repossessed by a bank after he couldn’t come up with enough to clear an overdue loan. Mdoe reportedly owes four banks various amounts of loans. Also, his announcement that he’s willing to sell his kidney to clear the loan has left many, including Royal Media, rather shocked and annoyed.

These are some of things that might have led to his demotion, which according to insiders, happened around November 2017.
