On a mission: Shaffie Weru blasts Homeboyz Management

Shaffie Weru has come out to blast the management of the radio station he used to work at, Homeboyz Radio following his elevation to a county post by Nairobi Governor, Sakaja. Ever since his newfound elevation, he has been on a media tour and his latest stop was at Nation TV.

Shaffie Weru given county appointment by Sakaja

While there he attacked the thinking behind his ouster at the Radio Africa Group run station saying that his exit has not solved anything, hinting that the station was left poorer for missing the opportunity to use him and Joe Mfalme and Neville (his co-hosts) to send their virtue signalling message.

During the interview, he and Amina came to an agreement that though what he did was wrong, the company that he had given his services to for 17 years, should have used this to push the conversation instead of treating him like a child who has spilt the food its parent was cooking.

DNG, Jalang’o and Shaffie Weru have left a void in event MCeeing

Do you agree with Shaffie Weru that the company panicked and mishandled his situation? Incase you’ve forgotten about it, he made a joke about a woman who had been tossed off a balcony of a night spot where she had gone on a date with a man and he felt she had led him on. The woman survived but not his raio career.

Shaffie Weru given county appointment by Sakaja

Shaffie Weru is smiling all the way to the bank after he was announced by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to the docket of Head of Events and Branding in Nairobi.

This is great news for the former media personality who was fired from Homeboyz Radio by the parent company, Radio Africa Group due to their clients calling to demand the same following an off-colour and off-tone joke he made about a woman who was tossed from a balcony by her date because she had led him on.

Shaffie Weru

Shaffie Weru has since then sued the company and is seeking damages and compensation from the events that unfolded back in 2021 that also saw DJ Joe Mfalme and a presenter called Neville.

Shaffie will be in charge of planning, overseeing and exclusively executing all indoor and outdoor events headlined by Nairobi County Government.

DNG, Jalang’o and Shaffie Weru have left a void in event MCeeing

Whenever you think of event MCs, whether corporate or otherwise, three names stand out like 3 colossi: DNG, Jalang’o and Shaffie Weru were the names you almost always expected to come across.

The three have since moved on to a new chapter in their careers whether voluntarily or otherwise and their absence is dearly felt because of how good they were at what they did.

Kenyan Hype-master DNG

Two of them left voluntarily to pursue their political ambitions. DNG is now an MCA after successfully competing on a Kenya Kwanza ticket to win the Woodly/ Kenyatta Golf Course seat.

Jalang’o’s battle was less clear cut as he first had to fight the rank and file within the coalition of his choice; Azimio to get the ODM ticket after it was denied to him because he was an untested upstart whose loyalties were in doubt.

Shaffie’s departure wasn’t done voluntarily. He was kicked out of Homeboyz and radio Africa Group where he had worked for over 15 years because the feminists that populated the companies that were customers of his employers were baying for his blood.

Shaffie Weru had made an off-colour joke on the radio about a woman who had been tossed off a balcony after a date gone wrong. She survived but the feminists saw an opportunity to make a statement and they went in for their fill of blood.

Jalang’o looking dapper as he beats the morning cold

His career was ruined and so he had to find his feet in the business. That has subsumed his focus and he has since stopped MCing events.

The three have left a void that is difficult to fill. DR Ofweneke is doing his bit as is Oga Obinna but beyond that, the market is pretty much fair game. And you can tell from the dearth of talent just how tall an order this is.

In the teaser for the show, he confessed to his mistakes in the past and promised to be a better person.

Fake Friends! Shaffie Weru Opens Up On Being Ditched By Friends During Scandal

Shaffie Weru lost one of the most sumptuous radio jobs; where he was earning Ksh 700,000 per month. He definitely felt more than a pinch after being sucked from Homeboyz, alongside his counterparts Dj Joe Mfalme and Neville.

Shaffie had a scandalous week thereafter, where he tried to sue the radio’s management, but they counter-sued him back for a greater amount of money (Ksh 150 Million). Additionally, the actions of the management sparked mixed reactions on whether firing them was the right thing to do or not.

It was after the contretemps that Shaffie underwent a hard time; but family stood by him. However, Shaffie claims that friends who he expected to stand with him ditched him instead. In an interview on Switch Tv, he said;

”Some of them are still my very good friends until today. Some of them are people I used to hang out with them on a daily basis. Actually, majority of the people who I expected to stand by me or have my back walked away. And I’m not even judging. I don’t have an issue with the strangers, the haters or the friends…”

Additionally, Shaffie said that being fired was something he had anticipated.

”I expected one day it was going to come”

Shaffie also advised people to beware of fake friends, who only be with you when things are good and ditch you when things go south.

Radio Africa Group Set To Counter-Sue Shaffie For Breach Of Contract

Shaffie’s decision to take legal action of suing his employers Radio Africa has been levelled by the firm’s management. Shaffie’s lawyers had written to Radio Africa and claimed that the terms of suspension and termination of his contract did not match. The management had previously opted to suspend Shaffie and his colleagues, Neville and Dj Joe Mfalme. They later changed their decision and fired them.

Shaffie, Neville and Mfalme-Google

In case you missed what caused the saga, Shaffie and his coworkers made comments on Eunice’s story. The damsel was pushed from 12th floor by a man he met on Facebook. Most people have since given their opinion on the issue. Shaffie and Mfalme were slammed for saying Kenyan women are too available and lose. They used the incident as their reference story.

Shaffie threatened to sue Radio Africa Group for unpaid Ksh 21 Million. However, RAG have now  threatened to counter-sue him for Ksh 150 Million. RAG claim Shaffie breached his contract and made inappropriate comments on air (negligence).

”His actions were unconsiable and amount to severe gross misconduct. He should have known better having been in the industry 18 years and receiving continuous training on media regulators and code of conduct and ethics .Including a very recent training by the Media Council of Kenya in February 2021 which covered: Ethics and Code of Conduct , Fake News and Fact Checking, Interview skills Conflict Sensitive Journalism Hate Speech Dilemma in media…”

Shaffie Weru Set To Sue Radio Africa Group For Unfair Termination Of Employment Services

After the sacking of media personality Shaffie Weru and his workmates Neville and Dj Joe Mfalme, most people are having the debate on whether it was a fair way of treating the three. Most female celebrities shunned the comments of the three and said that firing them acted as an example to all other men who try to justify gender-based violence and rape. This happened after Shaffie Weru, Neville and Mfalme commented on the story of Eunice. Additionally, more and more women opened up on their experiences while under men’s protection. Socialite Bridget Achieng was one of those who claimed she experienced rape while under gospel artist Ringtone.

Shaffie Weru has now taken action after being fired by Homeboyz radio management. The radio presenter is set to meet those involved in court.

The management had previously opted to suspend Shaffie and his counterparts but they later made the decision to sack them. East African Breweries Limited also suspended advertising with Radio Africa Group after the incident.

The past few days have had the spotlight on the saga. More and more people are contributing their opinion on how they really feel about the incident. There’s absolutely more of this to come.

Shaffie Weru and DJ Joe Mfalme forced to apologize after mocking lady thrown off a building by lover

Radio presenter Shaffie Weru and DJ Joe Mfalme shocked many after they were heard making fun of Eunice; a 20 year old lady who was left crippled after she was thrown off a building for saying ‘NO’ to her date.

The Homeboyz crew

For some reason Shaffie Weru – a father of two lovely girls saw an opportunity to troll the young lady; and what better way to make this situation funnier – than involving another party (Joe Mfalme) to pock fun; all in the name of entertaining their radio fans.

Judging from the clip shared on Homeboyz radio page; it’s evident that  Shaffie and Joe made a huge mistake and probably got carried away hence their ‘funny funny’ about young desperate girls.

Owns up to their mistakes

Howeber having realized that their statements were not as hilarious as they thought; both Joe Mfalme and Shaffie have issued separate apologies to any harm done to Eunice and her family.

As seen on Shaffie’s statement – the father of two acknowledges that his words were not smart; as he wrote;

Official Statement: I meant No Harm or Prejudice towards matters of such national urgency #theraverendslife #embraceyourchaos???? #mylifemychaos✌ #TheLiftOff @homeboyzradio

Joe on other hand also did the same as he regretted his poor choice of words; and promised to do better next time now that he understands his mistake. He wrote;

I know better. Now I do Better. @homeboyzradio

6 celebrity media couples who parted ways in sad goodbyes

The media industry has housed multiple outstanding personalities over time, some who had to make exits we never saw coming, others whose chemistry lured fans to tune in to this station or that channel only for the end to come too soon.

Be it on TV, be it on radio, Kenyans have had to witness some of the most unpleasant goodbyes among media couples, leaving wounds that might never get healed unless these duos make major comebacks. Let’s start off:

1. Janet Mbugua and Hussein Mohamed

The former Citizen TV’s Monday Special duo split in 2015 while at the Royal Media studios as Janet left for maternity leave but never came back, leaving behind Hussein Mohamed to co-anchor with Jacque Maribe before the two later made their exit as well.

2. Lulu Hassan and Kanze Dena

The tale of Lulu and Kanze is one of best friends who we never ever thought would part until the latter landed a lucrative State House job in 2018 where she has been working since. Meanwhile, Lulu was paired with her beloved, Rashid Abdalla.

Kanze Dena and Lulu Hassan

3. Kalekye Mumo and Shaffie Weru

Kalekye and Shaffie was one of the most popular and favorite radio duo Kenya has ever heard, with personalities perfectly complementing each other but unfortunately, the Kamba doll had to leave in 2016 as Shaffie paired with Adelle Onyango.

4. Victoria Rubadiri and Larry Madowo

A speculated screen chemistry many hoped would blossom into a love story without an ending, only for Larry to soon after leave NTV for BBC in 2018, where he has since been making major moves.

5. Olive Burrows and Dennis Okari

Olive Kalekye Burrows was one lady who stirred lots of controversy after an alleged screen chemistry with Dennis Okari just after his marriage with Betty Kyallo had started becoming wobbly, before the two were eventually separated on air.

6. Andrew Kibe and Kamene Goro

The unfortunate story of Kamene and Kibe is one that probably still hurts, a match so perfect but it had to be done in June 2020 after Kibe handed in his resignation, thereafter getting replaced by Jalang’o.

Shaffie’s daughter – Milan Arafa – was 3 years old at the time and when she turned 15 over the weekend, Mercy sent the Homeboyz Radio producer a message wishing her a happy birthday and asked him for a refund.

Although she did not mention his name, it didn’t didn’t take long before social media users figured out that she was talking about Shaffie seeing as he put up a post on Sunday, June 21 wishing his daughter a happy 15th birthday.

EXCLUSIVE: Why Xtian Dela was fired from Kiss FM

You may not know this but controversial blogger Arthur Mandela, better known as Xtian Dela, no longer works at Kiss FM or any of the Radio Africa Group affiliates.

Dela, who was at one time a presenter at NRG Radio, joined Kiss FM sometime in June 2019 alongside Kamene Goro and Andrew Kibe.

Xtian Dela

His role was to produce the station’s breakfast show whose ratings had really taken a beating after Shaffie Weru and Adelle Onyango left.

Understandably, it’s Kamene and Kibe who vouched for him to produce the show because they had worked with him at NRG Radio where he would occasionally join them to discuss various topics on their breakfast show.

Cluelessness

Although Xtian had a short stint on radio, he had never really worked as a producer and as you may know, this is a different ball game because you have to conceptualize a 4-hour show from Monday to Friday.

Kiss FM is not just any station. It is one of the leading urban stations in Kenya with a good listenership and that means there is no time for trial and error and learning on the job, you have to hit the ground running.

So here comes Xtian who has no background whatsoever in producing a radio show and he is given this big role and he does not know how to go about it. What happens next? Your guess is as good as mine.

The Group Programs Controller at Radio Africa is an Australian national by the name Pete Sinclair and people who know him claim that he does not tolerate nonsense and mediocrity.

Sooner or later, he began to notice that Xtian Dela didn’t have a clue on how to conceptualize topics for Kamene and Kibe and the ratings were really declining so he took up the job of producing the breakfast show himself.

Pete Sinclair

Adios, bro

Although Xtian kept working at the station, even without having a specific role, they had to let go of him earlier this year because they saw no point of paying him a salary of about Ksh. 250,000 for doing nothing.

They grow up so fast! Shaffie Weru flies all the way to the United States for his daughters graduation!

Kiss FM radio host Shaffie Weru has opened up on an ugly incident that left him embarrassed during the Easter holiday in 2012.

Opening up for a second time since then, Shaffie said he was going through a lot during that time.

Shaffie disclosed that he was at a bad place emotionally at the time of that event and would get himself super drunk to forget his issues with baby mama Joan.

“Many people don’t understand what I was going through then. But I know what I was going through then. At that time nilikuwa na beef mbaya sana na mama Nia 2 to 3 years in our relationship. There were rumours that she was cheating, I know people look at me and think I can’t get played, I get played. I was living with her and I have given my all. I had just split from Debbie Asila and had gotten myself in this situation. The grass is not always greener on the other side, it was semi-arid. Things were not going right, we were not feeling each other, and there was a lot of pressure. She was way younger than me, she did what she did and I did what I did,” Shaffie said on the Chipukeezy Show.

He added that he turned to drinking to easy the pain.

“I threw myself into partying because out there, there was acceptance, I was hiding my grief and everything. I was going through a lot and I fell into alcohol and other stuff it was crazy bro,” Shaffie explained.

Lucia Musau, the PR lead for Hennessy said:

“Hennessy in itself exudes class, confidence and a go getter spirit and that’s why we found it fit to invite people who would indulge in the luxury histories and traditions of Hennessy Cognac and see things from our perspective.”

Just like the way Hennessy offers a unique taste that satisfies the cognac lover, the various personalities enjoyed quite the unique experience which was meant to signify the process Hennessy undergoes before it matures for consumption.

Speaking at the event, Alexandre Helaine Market Manager Moët Hennessy added that,

“The Code Henny is about creating the Hennessy lover’s circle, to give them their own experience with Hennessy. In a way to say thank you for their love to the brand, we invite them to an experiential moment including ways of tasting Hennessy while enjoying a new style of music.”
