Radio Africa Founder Steps Down After 24 Years

Patrick Quarcoo, founder and CEO of Radio Africa Group for the past 24 years, has announced his retirement.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Quarcoo acknowledged the difficulty of his decision but emphasized it was the right time for both himself and the company.

“Radio Africa Group is entering a pivotal phase,” Quarcoo said. “This transition allows the company to refocus on cost efficiency, profitability, and content development.”

A Legacy of Growth

Quarcoo expressed his pride in Radio Africa’s remarkable journey. From a single radio station, the group has grown to encompass six influential stations with a nationwide presence in Kenya, additional stations in Nigeria, a newspaper, and a significant digital footprint.

He expressed confidence in the new leadership team’s ability to build upon this strong foundation and achieve even greater success.

Gratitude to Staff, Advertisers, and Audience

Quarcoo thanked Radio Africa’s staff for their dedication and creativity, highlighting their role as the driving force behind the company’s success. He encouraged them to embrace the coming changes with continued enthusiasm.

Quarcoo also expressed his appreciation to advertisers for their longstanding partnership, acknowledging their trust as a key factor in the company’s growth. He pledged Radio Africa’s commitment to providing innovative solutions in the future.

The statement concludes with Quarcoo thanking everyone who has been part of Radio Africa’s journey and wishing them well in the future.

Radio Africa CEO Patrick Quarcoo loses wife to cancer

News reaching us is that Patrick Quarcoo, the man who founded Radio Africa Group, has lost his wife to cancer.

While the details are still scanty, a source who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal told Ghafla that his wife had been ailing for a long time before she passed away.

She reportedly had stage 4 cancer and had been admitted at Nairobi Hospital where she gave up the ghost on Tuesday, April 28.

Her death comes as a big blow since it is barely one month since Quarcoo lost one of his closest friends, former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore to cancer.

Quarcoo, Collymore, Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar, Peter Kenneth, Nic Hailey, Aly Khan Satchu and KCB CEO had formed what they referred to as the a boy’s club before the latter died.
