Renowned Kenyan pastor Ezekiel Odero has warned people against celebrating their birthdays before making major accomplishments in life.
In a sermon at his New Life Church and Prayer Centre, Odero said that birthdays should only be celebrated after recording tangible achievements.
“Do not celebrate your birthday if you have done nothing. Wait until you have achieved something, then we can celebrate your birthday,” he said.
Odero said that he has never celebrated his birthday and will never do so in his lifetime. He added that the next generation would be the ones to celebrate when he dies, provided he lives a life with significant impact to others and notable achievements.
To drive his point home, Odero made a comparison to the life and death of Jesus Christ. He said that Jesus’ life was celebrated after he died because of the things he had accomplished, such as dying on the cross to save humanity.
Odero’s warning has sparked mixed reactions online. Some people have supported him, saying that birthdays should be celebrated for special occasions and not just for the sake of it. Others have criticized him, saying that people should be allowed to celebrate their birthdays whenever they want, regardless of their accomplishments.
Regardless of one’s opinion, Odero’s warning has raised an important question about the purpose of birthday celebrations. Are they simply a way to mark the passage of time, or should they be reserved for special occasions?
