In testimonies and touching tributes given soon after his passing on, actors who shared the same stage with the fallen film star or even went through his hands for molding and mentorship, expressed just how deep and painful the wound his death had caused was like.

How he met his wife

Speaking during a recent interview with Churchill, Papa’s wife Beatrice opened up revealing how they met. According to the lady, they met back in 2004 when the late actor visited some friends near her home area.

I met him in 2004 when he was just visiting some friends and pastors around the area we used to live. We started meeting and talking and one time he came through the pastor asking for my consent; and the relationship took pff from there. He took me to Busia and I met his family.

From how his wife described their life together; we can confirm that the two genuinely loved each other hence the 16 years they lived together as man and wife! However now that he is gone, all Beatrice can do is pray for her late husband’s soul.

Take notes! Njoro’s priceless response to those criticizing his dress code!

Actor Njoro who is popularly known from TV show Papa Shirandula has come out to school some of the fans on the importance of prioritizing their needs!

This comes just a few days after actor Papa Shirandula was laid to rest in his Busia home. However, there are those who felt the need of criticizing Njoro’s dress code; claiming he is poor and has been struggling like most of the comedians we come to hear of.

Fans criticize Njoro’s dress code during the late Papa Shirandula’s funeral

Speaking during a recent interview, Njoro went on to open up saying;

Like right now, I have seen people discussing my dress code; yet they don’t know that there are things that matter.

What they however did not know is that Njoro is not the type of man who spends his money buying clothes! For him all that matters is investments.

He went on to speak to fellow comedians and artists urging them to live within their means!

The late Papa Shirandula with best friend, Njoro

My advice to fellow comedians and even artistes, just live your life and you will be blessed from there.

Now is the time

Njoro went on to add that instead of choosing flashy lifestyles then ending up in depression when they have nothing at the end should be enough reason to invest wisely!

You live flashy lifestyles when you are in fame and when you get into problems, you end up not having someone to talk to.

The wise actor cum businessman went on to conclude this part of his interview saying;

Once they are broke is when they end up wishing they could have invested well. When you are a celebrity, come back and invest in some business to do because comedy itaisha tu.

6 Kenyan creatives who died under mysterious circumstances in 2020!

The Kenyan entertainment scene has been in mourning since the year started after 2019 wrapped up with one of Kenya’s brilliant, young creative, Ayeiya losing his life in a tragic road accident.

Just as we thought 2020 was going to be any kind, I’ll be honest, if anything it has been severely brutal, unwelcoming of the fact that we are still healing from the wounds of those we had already lost.

I start in order since we ushered in the new year.

1. Razz Msupa

Razz was a popular Kenyan rapper having worked with legendary artists like King Kaka before she bid us goodbye on February 4.

The lass was apparently admitted in hospital following a short illness before breathing her last. Razz was pretty close to King Kaka and news of her passing on only left him dumbfounded.

The female rap act was among those featured in King Kaka’s 2013 smash hit “Ligi Soo Remix”. May she indeed rest in peace!

A lot of reports surrounded his death but for now, we can only allow his soul to rest in eternal peace.

3. Ken Walibora

Renowned author and respected journalist Prof Ken Walibora’s death on April 10, left Kenyans with unanswered questions, speculations rife that he was murdered into his grave.

Prof Ken Walibora speaking at a past function

It was reported he got knocked down by a speeding Double M bus while hurriedly crossing the road in what seemed like a chase by street boys, that left the question “why?” unanswered.

Only for autopsy results to later show that the wound on his right hand was caused by a sharp object and not by a blunt object as earlier alleged. Plus, what was more puzzling was what the 56-year old author was doing in Muthurwa on a chilly Saturday morning.

Either way, may he rest peacefully!

4. Kasee

Known for his budding antics on Churchill Show, we lost Kasee born Joseph Musyoki Kivindu on Sunday, June 28 with claims he had been battling depression before it drove him to his death.

Former Churchill show comedian, Kasee

A budding comedian who had been reduced to one-two gigs at his local Kinoo bar after life took a toll on him, forcing him into alcoholism.

5. Lady Maureen

The late Ohangla star’s life had started going downhill after nursing complications at a hospital in Kasarani that saw her taken closer home to Kisumu where she changed hospitals severally in an attempt to get her under the best medical team.

Queen of Ohangla, Lady Maureen

Akothee was a noticeable figure in the Benga musician’s journey to treatment and good health, holding fundraisers for her hospital bills and home-based care with the hope she was eventually going to get back on her two feet.

Unfortunately, before that came to pass, Lady Maureen passed on on Saturday, July 11. May her soul find eternal rest!

6. Papa Shirandula

His condition thereafter worsened compelling his wife to rush him to the medical center on Saturday where he unfortunately never made it past the reception, passing on in his car.

He was laid to rest yesterday, July 20 at his home in Busia. Rest in Peace Papa!

This is why comic actor Njoroge cuts such a dejected, forlorn image in Papa Shirandula’s burial ceremony

An image of a popular actor captured at a funeral surfaced online, and it’s a picture worth a thousand words. It carries a lot of emotion. It’s probably the only image of the comical actor taken out of character.

This actor is Kenneth Gichoya, popularly known as Njoroge, or Njoro in the Citizen TV Show, Papa Shirandula.

In this image, Njoroge is clearly an emotional wreck, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s sending off Papa Shirandula – a friend of many years, a mentor and whose on-screen chemistry was almost tangible. The pair have been in the Papa Shirandula show – titled around the departed actor’s persona – for a whopping 13 years. That’s not an easy feat.

Just why did Njoroge seem so shattered?

The fallen icon has been instrumental in the actor’s career growth from the early days. He feels like an orphan.

Njoroge was born as Kenneth Gichoya, in a sleepy section of Kirinyaga County called Gichugu. He has a record breaking tally of primary schools he attended – 7 primary schools! This gives a hint of quite a wild spirit. He did tone down, though, later in high school. Njoro is an alumni of Baricho High school which recently got upgraded to a national school status.

With his onscreen persona, it’s forgivable to believe he called it quit after that, but Njoro holds a Mass communication diploma from East African School of Media studies.

Kenneth Gichoya’s passion for the stage started in high school, and he’s pursued it ever since. The sly, mischievous cunning roles he lands nowadays – especially his role as Njoroge on the Papa Shirandula Show – have a thing with his past.

In the annual high school Christmas musicals, Njoroge would always be cast as the betraying Judas Iscariot. He amusedly tags this uncanny trait to his cunning facial features!

What drives the actor?

Njoroge refers to an episode in his childhood that remains a constant driving force. And as is common with many public figures of note, it’s a humble background. The actor at one point lived with his mother in a single rental room, and all they had was a charcoal jiko and a thin, bare-thread mattress.

One day, the landlord comes over to evict them for arrears owed. The man notices the bare room and asks why they had started to move out – on which the hapless mother says those are their entire belongings. It’s a sad tale.

Njoroge’s acting career broke its teeth at the Kenya National Theatre, and this is where he met the iconic, burly actor Charles Bukeko. They’d moonlight as stage spare casts, props and occasionally headline one or two shows. The pair then got into the travelling theatre showcasing high school literature set books.

Papa Shirandula’s star had started to shine in 1997, when he landed a major deal with Coca-Cola, in the iconic BRRRRR Coke advert. Since then, he never looked back.

What’s more important is that Papa didn’t leave his friend in the trenches – Njoroge. When the self-named Papa Shirandula Show premiered, the main actor did his pick of the cast, and Njoroge was his first choice. They’ve ridden that train together for more than a decade.

Over time, the pair developed a friendship beyond the stage and screen. Their families know each other, and share holidays. They’ve travelled for events and corporate functions.

For the comic Kenneth Gichuhi, Papa Shirandula was more than a uniformed, baton-wielding guard living a double life. He was a mentor, a colleague. Papa was family.

It’s understandable then, why Njoroge seems like a man whose heart has been ripped out.

“He died while seated in the car!” Papa Shirandula’s wife painfully narrates how Karen Hospital neglected her sick husband!

Papa Shirandula’s wife has come out to eulogize her late husband who passed on on Saturday, July 18th. According to reports the late Papa Shirandula died at the Karen Hospital; but what we were not told is that he actually died outside the hospital and not inside!

His wife Beatrice Adenga revealed this while speaking moments after her husband’s funeral back in Busia. According to the widow, she watched her husband the late Charles Bukeko take his last breathe in their car after doctor’s at the Karen Hospital refused to admit him.

Papa Shirandula’s wife opens up

Nilimueka kwa gari (sigh) I went to Karen Hospital. Admission was just another process, Im telling please he needs support as an emergency the time they are still preparing, he passed on while i was with him in the vehicle. He was not even admitted, he passed on seated on the seat of the car.

Did Papa Shirandula die of COVID 19?

Judging from what Beatrice says it appears that she does not believe that her late husband died of Coronavirus. Apparently the hospital only carried a coronavirus test on the corpse omitting Malaria and Pneumonia. In a video making rounds on social media, the widow goes on to say;

https://www.instagram.com/p/CC22sqfg0QN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I went to ask the doctor how many tests did you carry out, the doctor only said one…I asked why and they were meant to be three. Why did you concentrate only on one, the weather here is not even conducive to our lives, we have to carry out the three of them pneumonia to confirm also.

If indeed the late actor died of Coronavirus then this leaves us wondering how comes his wife is still interacting with other people; while we already know how infectious the virus is.

But hey, who knows…the government says it’s coronavirus, and COVID 19 it is!

The late Papa Shirandula born Charles Bukeko was finally laid to rest today at his home in Busia County following his passing on on Saturday, July 18th at the Karen Hospital.
