Vera shared a personal account involving her brother, King Josh, who joined thousands of protestors. At one point, his phone went off, causing the family great concern.

“We all tried calling, but he was offline. Called all his friends, and nobody knew where he was. My heart sank for a while, only for him to reach out hours later to say he’s heading home,” she shared.

She emphasized the collective anxiety experienced by those with loved ones participating in the protests.

“For those of us who didn’t go for protests, we all have loved ones and people out there risking their lives, fighting for our lives. Our hearts stop when anything bad happens to any one of us. Please, know you are not alone.”

Scores of youths were rushed to various medical facilities with injuries from bullets and tear gas canisters.

“I’m so saddened it’s come to this. I can’t unsee those images. Praying for Kenya. This is sick. My heart bleeds for my country! It should never have come to this point. So many innocent lives lost, multiple people injured. Is this really the ‘hustlers’ nation?” she added.

Vera criticized the current leadership for their actions during the protests.

“Our government, sworn to protect and serve, stood in stark contrast to the reality we witnessed today. The promise of safety and care dissolved into scenes of tragedy and loss.

“Our painful voices, demanding fairness and justice, were met not with dialogue but with violence. This sad day serves as a painful reminder of the gap between the ideals of our leaders and the lived experiences of the people they are meant to protect. However, it also represents the beginning of a very important era in Kenyan history. It’s time our people take their power back!

This is way more than just #RejectFinanceBill2024! Rest in peace to our fallen comrades,” she concluded.
