Neomi Ng’ang’a who has for the longest time been the bastion of flawed and deluded body positivity in Kenya seems to have woken up to some seriously sound judgement -real body positivity is about maintaining your body in the best possible shape and staying healthy and fit.

You see, for the longest time, Neomi Ng’ang’a has been the one woman willing to throw herself into tiffs and spats that have little if anything to do with her and defend the women being “body-shamed”. As a result, she became something of a folk heroine for women who felt their physiques left them vulnerable to attacks online.
Remember when Huddah had the audacity to speak out honestly about the fact that being overweight and obese is an actual health hazard for Kenyan women? Neomi Ng’ang’a was among those in the forefront of calling for women to boycott her cosmetics company and the products they offer which forced Huddah to apologize and beat a hasty retreat.

But when we look at the message Huddah was pushing, we have to admit that is actually scientifically sound and grounded in well researched medical and biological findings. And yet Neomi Ng’ang’a was able to disregard every conventional wisdom that is essentially common sense to push for economic sanctions against the messenger. That really did give me pause for thought.
However, it would seem 2021 has come with a change of mind and heart for Neomi Ng’ang’a as she declared that she is looking for a partner who can help get her to the gym and help her take care of her health and weight.

Make no mistakes about this, this is a huge win for real body positivity because when you really think about it, loving being in an unhealthy body is not something to be proud of. While there are indeed some diseases that make losing weight problematic, the truth is that being active and keeping fit has more health benefits than any excuse can be mustered.
And perhaps this newfound verve and vigour for hitting the gym can be passed on to her fellow rotund female fans. Perhaps this is going to be the year when we see a reversal of the false, toxic god of body-positivity and a new religion can arise to take its place. Time will tell. But I for one am happy to see Neomi Ng’ang’a finally decide to hit the gym.
