“Teresa was left by her husband, according to what Nimo told me. Yet, she successfully raised two boys and a girl… She raised them in the ghetto, and my son Bahati knows this well because they were always together,” he said, acknowledging Teresaās dedication to her children despite the hardships.
Mr. Gachuiri also expressed his appreciation for Teresa’s acceptance of his daughter, Nimo, into her family. He fondly recalled how Teresa became part of their family and highlighted her talents as a skilled seamstress.
“Thank you, Teresa, for raising children from the ghetto who are now known worldwide. We negotiated dowry with this woman… She really loved my daughter, Nimo. And above all, Teresa was an excellent dressmaker. She became one of us,” he shared.
He also recalled a visit to Teresa in the hospital, where she left him with her last words: “Moses has a father. So, Moses, you have parents and we will be your parents. I am a proud father.”
Nimo also shared her memories of Teresa, revealing the close bond they formed over the years.
She recalled their first meeting, which was arranged by Mr. Seed without any prior notice, and how Teresa welcomed her with open arms.
āI was so privileged to meet Mum… Seed took me to meet her for the first time without telling me. From that very first moment, she truly loved me,” Nimo remembered.
Nimo highlighted the absence of typical mother-in-law conflicts. Instead, Teresa often communicated through her when she needed something from Mr. Seed, knowing Nimoās love and genuine care for her.
āThank you for the love, the special moments, and the heartfelt talks. You were there in both good and bad times, always welcoming me and providing a safe space… When things got tough online, I would go to her and cry. She would hold me, and I felt safe in her arms. She wasn’t one to speak much; if you wronged her, she’d simply say, ‘Leave it to God,’ā Nimo expressed gratefully.
Nimo also shared the pain of seeing Teresa suffer through illness but remained thankful for the time they spent together.
To honor her late mother-in-law’s memory, Nimo performed a special song dedicated to Teresa, celebrating her life through music.
