Veteran Bongo Flava artist Mr. Blue has opened up about how the pressures of fame led him into drug addiction. Known for his distinct voice and hit songs like “Mapoz,” Mr. Blue revealed the personal struggles that often come with celebrity life.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Mr. Blue shared that he had never used drugs before gaining fame. However, everything changed when he entered the music industry. “When I started in music, I was just a kid without any friends. But after I became famous, everyone wanted to be close to me, pretending to care. I have a good heart, so I welcomed people into my life without hesitation. When someone smoked (cigarettes or bhang) near me, it became easy for me to join in. Soon, alcohol became a regular part of my routine, and I started neglecting my studio sessions, getting lost in drug abuse,” Mr. Blue admitted.

The rapper, who recently remixed his hit “Mapoz” with Diamond Platnumz and Jay Melody, said that as his finances dwindled, the friends who once surrounded him began to disappear. “I was a calm, focused young man when I started my music career, but I was misled by the people I trusted. When I finally realized what was happening, I was broke, and one by one, the people who claimed to love me vanished. But I thank God for guiding me through it. Losing my mother at a young age, finding a wife, and becoming a father brought me back to my senses because I now had new responsibilities,” he explained.
