Artist Spotlight: Breeder LW, a musical genius who is pushing the limits

I’m ashamed to say this but the truth is that I first heard of the name Breeder LW when Khaligraph featured him on Khali Cartel 3. He had a dope verse in that jam, if you’ve never listened to it, you probably should.

Anyway, as they say, better late than never. With time, I’ve grown to love Breeder LW’s music and I think he’ll go far if he keeps doing what he is doing at the moment.

Other than the fact that he has a deep voice, somewhat like Odi Wa Murang’a, as you listen to his songs, you’ll notice that he has a unique flow. Put simply, you just want to keep listening to him as he does his thing.

I don’t know about you but Breeder LW, also known as Bazenga Daddii, reminds me of the days when Calif Records churned out great musical acts. I’m sure if the record label had not collapsed, he would be singed there.

One of the things that sets him apart from most Gengetone artists is that there is some maturity in his lyrics. He puts a lot of thought into his work, at least that is what I feel when I listen to his tracks.

To add to that, his wordplay skills are on point because he comes up with some of the best rhymes ever. Breeder LW is a natural and I’m happy that Kenyans are now paying attention to his music, if you are not then you should.

After awing Kenyans with her tight flow and punchlines on Khaligraph’s Khali Cartel 3, Silverstone Barz has released a new joint to show us that she really means business.

The song dubbed Midnight in Nairobi, which is off her upcoming mixtape titled Queenpin, is such a masterpiece and I know you will agree with me after listening to it.

Once again, Silverstone Barz, who fondly refers to herself as the punchline queen, has proven that it is only matter of time before she takes the title of Kenya’s queen of rap.

Her flow and punchlines on this jam is so impressive and it is likely that you’ll be left scratching your head as you try to understand what she really meant.

One of the lines that really wowed me was when she said, “You need a nose job, can’t tell I am the shit.” I don’t know who your favourite Kenyan rapper is but I sure Silverstone Barz can outdo him or her in a rap battle.

The beat on this jam is also on point and it blends well with flow and lyrics. I’m sure all hip hop heads agree with me on this. Props to K6 On The Beat.

If you’ve been looking for something different, there you go! What’s more is that all of her verses in this jam are only in English, no Swahili, no Sheng. This lass is definitely going places.

Most Kenyan musicians don’t know their worth and it’s sad

Despite being super-talented and all, you’ll be shocked to learn that most Kenyan musicians don’t really understand their worth. This is a sad fact of life!

So, here’s the scenario, you are are dead broke despite being an accomplished musician. You’ve dropped three new singles since the year began.

To add to that  you have thousands of followers on your own social media pages, meaning you can easily pull crowds to a gig.

Someone, say a fraudulent promoter, approaches and asks you to perform at an out of town gig for Ksh. 10,000 and you agree because you need to sort out some bills and what not.

Who’s the fool here? Is it the promoter or the musician. It’s definitely the latter and I’ll explain why.

You see, Kenyan musicians should be aware of their worth and stop undervaluing themselves. When they accept paltry amounts for out of town gigs, they are unknowingly setting a bad precedence.

Event organizers are always in constant communication. If word goes around that you charge a certain amount for a performance, your rate card is set.

The next time an event organizer calls the musician up, they will probably offer them the same amount or much less.

At the end of the day, a musician will be bitter for getting bad rates yet they are being offered such meagre amounts because of the precedence that they set. It’s your fault bro!

Musicians should know that it’s okay to turn down amounts they are not comfortable with and that their personal needs or debts should not come before their crafts.

If a musician  needs a manager to help them evaluate how much they are worth, they should go ahead and get one. It’s totally okay!

This way, they’ll get paid what they are worth.  The musician, will also be able to do more things. Instead of performing at many small gigs and being underpaid, just have one or two and get your worth.

Some of the musicians who have been smiling all the way to the bank because they understand their worth are the likes of Naiboi, Khaligraph, Sauti Sol, Otile Brown, Nameless, Avril, Fena Gitu, King Kaka, Octopizzo, Nyashinski, just to name a few.

“She does what I tell her to do” Khaligraph reveals how he’s an authoritarian boyfriend to her girlfriend Cashy

Cashy has been missing in action ever since she dropped a collabo with her boyfriend. Apparently it’s Khaligraph who instructed her to lay low.

Khaligraph is dating a pretty rapper called Cashy whom she featured in his hit song ‘Micasa Sucasa’. Papa Jones is however an authoritarian boyfriend, he revealed this during an interview with Word Is.

Khaligraph disclosed that Cashy does everything he tells her to do, he said that he instructed her to turn her back on limelight after they released their collabo.

“I was raised in a family where we value family. I’m not one of these local superstars tapping a lot of hoes out here from everywhere. If I commit to one girl, that is the girl I’m going to roll with. You won’t see Khaligraph was with multiple partners. If it is a girl I like, I will protect her from bullshit. That’s why after our collabo, you’ve not seen her. She does what I tell her to do,” Khaligraph said.

Papa Jones further stated that he doesn’t like a presumptuous girlfriend, he said his sweetheart must be well disciplined and understanding.

“The girl has to be disciplined. Has to have a nice body. Sipendi mtu kimbelembele. Has to be understanding,” Khaligraph described his ideal woman.

Khaligraph Jones and Octopizzo’s fresh beef isn’t about to end anytime soon, people joining either side are further fueling the beef.

Yesterday May 10th Octopizzo drop a bomb that wiped off Khaligraph’s new diss track ‘Toa Tint’. Kibera’s finest shared a photo of Khaligraph and him as he narrated how Papa Jones desperately wanted to be like him.

“Once upon a time there was 2 Amigos, one of them was called Omolo, Omolo was a short FAT BLACK kid, he always talked very fast and caught feelings easily. Next to him was his mentor King Octo.

“Omolo admired King Octos lifestyle to an extent that he wanted to look like him in reality,but he couldn’t loose weight. 9 yrs later Omolo evolved from taking fast to rapping fast, it took him time though before People could understand why he was saying,people still don’t understand what he’s saying.

“But luckily 9yrs later he got a chance to visit Dubai,Landing there Omolo realized everybody was white and brown and he had a massive culture shock coz his accent wasn’t matching his looks;he had crazy insecurities like an Alshabab soldier,He tried to use unga but it didn’t work,then he ran to the next store and got body cream, His mentor king octo tried to reach him but couldn’t coz he was traveling in the United States for business.

“He was asked to diss him but King octo said “I can’t diss a light skinned person,am not racist, am a civilized proud African man.

“Since then Omolo and King octo haven’t met, but King octo still believes he can change Omolos mind and reverse the experiment.

Khaligraph Jones started from the bottom and he is not shy about it. He has always been open about growing up in Kayole and unlike many, he actually managed to walk out with a foreign accent that has opened a couple of doors for him.

But gone are the days when he had no place to call home as he now lives with his girlfriend in full furnished apartment somewhere in a good and safe environment. Judging from the photos and videos he shared on his Instagram page their is no doubt that he is now balling on another level and none of the rappers we have in the game can match up to him .

In one of the photos he shared on his gram, his girlfriend is seen chilling on one of their sofas (that by the way look very expensive) while he shared a video showing off the interior design used to decorate his living room. He not only has a bar stores his champagne but captivating urban stylish crafts that clearly indicate he is living that American dream in Kenya.

He also recently shared a photo touring Dubai for the first time stunning on the likes of Octopizzo who once made fun of him as he had never left Africa to travel abroad.
