Kayvo Kforce;From Kibera slums to the Hip-hop industry

Family and Early Life

Kayvo Kforce born Kevin Ambalwa was  born was born 29 May 1989. He grew up in Kibera. Kevin is the first born in a family of 5.  Ambalwa gained recognition in the music industry while he was still a member of and also a pioneer in the neo-Kenyan rap. Kforce has played a major role in the career of  of great artists in Kenya like  Octopizzo and Khaligraph Jones. His love for music bagan while he was still young.

Career

Did you know that Kforce sang in a church choir? Believe it or not at 8 years he was doing it for his local church. While at it, that is when Kayvo Kforce discovered music was his path and decided to follow it. In 2008, Kayvo Kforce was the youngest rapper to grace the rap scene and soon after his music group ‘K-Force’,  decided to go solo on his music career. Kforce had a mentor who molded him into a prolific writer and sharpened his flows.

Kayvo Kforce decided torap because Kibera by then had no notable artistes, so he saw this as an opportunity to put Kibera on the map. Kforce  has worked with notable producers in the game like Tedd Josiah and Ambrose and also worked with East African musicians like Solo Thang, Kalamashaka, Chiwawa, Khaligraph Jones, Smallz Lethal, Abbas just to mention.

Also Kayvo Kforce has collaborated with artistes like Maluda, Octopizzo, Khaligraph Jones, Zj Heno, Lon Jon.  Kayvo Kforce has also participated in  Coke Studio Africa Cypher, where he shared the stage with M.I Abaga, Nazizi, Khaligraph Jones and Bamboo.

His Music

Kayvo Kforce, has not only gained recognition for his diss track ‘Kill A King’, but also for the songs that address the social and political realities he has faced. Coming from the largest slum in the African continent, Kibera,  Kayvo often references what life was like in the slum in videos like” I Do It” and”Ghetto”.

Ghetto

This song is an over view of what goes on in his home area Kibera, as well as other slums In Nairobi and Kenya. Those who live or have lived in the slums will relate while those who don’t will get a glimpse.
