The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have dismissed an official letter doing rounds on social media claiming that Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is wanted by Interpol.
The letter, which started circulating last week, was confirmed fake after the governor’s lawyers questioned it’s authenticity.
Malicious
The fake letter listed Joho as among individuals who are being investigated by the international policing agency over their involvement in drugs trade.
“Since we may not go far in investigating the origin of the forged letter in the social media, please take civil remedies for those spreading the malicious rumours,” DCI’s letter reads in part.
Interpol also denied any link to the letter after it was forwarded to the its General Secretariat who said the legal affairs office had not issued such a document adding that it was forged.
“This bureau seeks to bring to your attention the attached document circulating in social media regarding the case of the Akasha implicating politicians and prominent individuals. The same was forwarded to Interpol General Secretariat who in turn indicated that the office of legal affairs has never issued the said document citing that it was forgery,” said Oburu in his memo.
