Tonin Okoth, chairman of the Love Concert organizing committee, confirmed the news. In a heartfelt message, he said, “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mr. Francis Thiong’o, beloved husband of Gospel Minister Jemimah Thiong’o. He passed away this morning after a prolonged hospital stay.”
Okoth also announced that the Love Charity Concert, initially planned to help cover Francis Thiong’o’s medical expenses, has been postponed. “We have decided to shift our focus to funeral preparations. The Love Celebration concert will resume after the funeral, scheduled for August 4, 2024,” he said.
The memorial service for Francis Thiong’o will be held on Sunday, July 28, at Membley Baptist Church, starting at 2 PM. “You are all invited to attend the memorial service for the late Francis Thiong’o this Sunday at Membley Baptist Church,” Okoth stated.
He also called for financial support to cover both the hospital bills and funeral expenses. “Contributions towards the funeral and hospital bills will be greatly appreciated. Jemimah Thiong’o has blessed us with her music, and now it’s our turn to support her in this challenging time, through both prayers and financial aid,” Okoth added.
Jemimah Thiong’o had previously spoken about her husband’s health struggles, revealing her efforts to raise Sh3 million for his medical bills. What began as a minor procedure led to severe complications, resulting in Francis’s long hospitalization and eventual immobility. Despite the fundraising efforts, his condition worsened, leading to his untimely death.
