Groove Awards 2018 winners(Full List)

Since 2004, Groove Awards has celebrated excellence in gospel music in Kenya and across Africa. Entering its 13th year, the awards are Kenya’s most prestigious and recognized gospel awards. This year’s Award was marred by many controversies especially after Jalang’o came out to shun some of the artists for lacking content.

Noel’s night

Citizen TV’s Timeless Noel topped all other artists with five wards, winning The Song of the Year, Dance of the Year, Most Downloaded Skiza Tune, Hype man of the Year and Collabo of the Year through his song Odi Dance.

Why this year’s Groove Awards is different from the others

The upcoming 13th edition of Groove Awards will be a bit different than others after organisers released new information.

According to the organisers, the event has been pushed forward by 22 days and but a Groove camp will be slotted on May 23 to bring the artists together.

Few changes

“Groove Camp has been one of the most important arms of the Groove process where artists spend time in mentorship, praise and worship sessions as well as bonding in outdoor gaming activities,” said the awards in a statement.

Initially, the awards show was on 1st June but has been moved now to June 23.

“The road to Groove Awards which will this year take place on the 23 June breaking the tradition of the Awards being held on the 1 the last couple of years is a culmination of a number of events including Nomination, Voting and Tours.”

“This year’s nomination process will also see gospel music enthusiasts be able to nominate their own favourite artists and songs, as opposed to previous years when a nomination list was put out and fans were only allowed to vote for them.”

“The public will be part of the nomination process unlike previous years where they have just been involved in the voting process. This means with the Nominations opening from 24 May, fans will have the chance to nominate their favourite artist in the various categories.”

The 2017 Groove Awards was all about fun, awards and fashion at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.

Both gospel and secular artistes availed themselves for star studded event that has been trending for hours now. We are often used to seeing the ladies all glammed but this time around the men also came to show off their fashionable outfits.

Among those who availed themselves is Neomi Ng’ang’a, Avril Nyambura, Jacky Vike among others who did not disappoint at any given point. The red carpet photos making rounds on social can confirm that our ladies have mastered the art of dressing to kill at events and having them show up looking like a million bucks was just the beginning.

The men on the other hand looked dapper in their well fitted suits while others chose to mix in a little Ankara materials just to look unique. If anything, the event seemed more of a fashion event but…they all did it just fine.

Body Goals! Teacher Wanjiku flaunts her gorgeous body in a figure hugging black dress at the Groove Awards

Losing baby fat has always been an issue to many women. Most tend to hit the gym a few months after giving birth and this somehow takes time to get back to their preferred body sizes.

One of them is teacher Wanjiku who welcomed her daughter about a year and has been trying to shed off her baby fat. Thanks to her social media pages we were able to keep up with the lass throughout her weight loss journey and judging from her photos taken at the Groove Awards we can say that she is now comfortable in her own skin.

The comedian has lost so much weight that she now looks like a 20 something year old girl. Her black dress outlined her perfect physic giving fans a reason to envy her. Judging from the caption there is no doubt that she achieved her body goals. Below are the photos she shared;

Zero Chills! Comedian Chipukeezy savagely trolls Bahati and Willy Paul at the Groove Awards 2017 ceremony

The Groove Awards ceremony went down last evening attracting both the gospel and secular artists to come celebrate and appreciate good music.

Well, the event is usually held annually and this year the likes of Willy Paul and Bahati were not among those nominated in any category meaning their would be new faces bagging the awards.

Anyway…Chipukeezy and Eric Omondi were among the celebrities who turned up with their girlfriends to come celebrate with the gospel industry and being among the funniest comedians we have in the country, Chipukeezy left many laughing after he decided to troll Bahati and Willy Paul.

Though this was an inside joke, I bet we will all agree with what he says. Checkout the video below;

After verbally attacking event organizers for snubbing him, Willy Paul shamelessly releases a diss song dedicated to Groove Awards 2017…clear proof that he is doing this out of bitterness

It is no secret that Willy Paul and Bahati were not nominated in any category in Groove awards 2017 that went down on Tuesday May 2nd. Well, this is because the two had not stepped up their game and unlike before, their songs were not up to the gospel standards.

Anyway, Willy Paul stormed out of the Groove Awards nominations gala and from what we hear is that the fella was pretty much furious for having been sidelined a year when he thought he would bag a couple of awards mainly because of his song “I do” which he featured Jamaican dancehall artist Alaine.

Well, if you thought the drama had cooled off then you are in for a surprise. There have been rumors claiming that Willy Paul’s new song was leaked online by unknown persons, but this is not the case.

His new song dubbed digiri which currently making rounds online is allegedly meant to be dissing Groove Awards for snubbing him…something that he is not willing to let go of anytime soon.

 

The singer allegedly tried recording it with Teddy B and Bizzy B but they both refused to work with him if this is the direction he had decided to take.

Our source goes further to reveal that his new song was initially to be called AWARDS, but he changed it to digiri which made it easier for him to find a producer and this is how he met iLogos who accepted to record the song for him.

However, having listened to it, I can’t help but notice how shallow the lyrics are and what’s more surprising is that he actually wanted to launch this particular song on the same day the Groove Awards event will be going down.

Just to show how much he did not care… Willy Paul tried reaching out to Mo Sound asking for studio and gear to record the video forgetting that these are the same people he was looking down on when producing his song ‘digiri’.

Well, not quite sure what is going on with the young gospel artistes but one thing is for sure…most of them seem to be doing this for the love of money or rather just fame.

“I would have parted with 1.2M but they declined the offer” Flamboyant singer tears into Groove Awards after getting snubbed twice

The dust on this year’s Groove Awards Nominations has settled and both nominees and those snubbed have pretty much moved on, after the May 2 nominations.

Willy Paul and Bahati aren’t the only singers to be snubbed again by Groove Awards, gospel singer Papa Dennis also has a bone to pick with the organizers of the premier Gospel Awards event in Kenya.

The ‘Mayaya’ hit-maker has also come out to air his displeasure with the Groove Awards after being snubbed for the 2nd year straight.

Papa Dennis

The singer feels someone at Groove Awards has something personal against him and that this did not start yesterday.

“When I was launching my ‘Wonder’ album in 2015, I approached the organizers of Groove Awards to provide sound – a deal which would have seen me part with KSh1.2M – but they declined the offer,” laments Papa Dennis.

He adds that the last quarter of 2015 and 2016 were his best years as a breakout artiste and surely deserved a nomination slot but none of it came from Groove…but he won the Male Artist of the Year at Mwafaka in 2015 beating Willy Paul and Bahati.

Asked whether he’s just being a cry-baby, the singer vehemently denies arguing that he’s just voicing his concerns and that he has nothing against the awards or its organizers.
