Hot on Gospel Streets: Kenya meets South Africa in Foreman’s new Banger ‘Kua Tayari’

Ever tried writing lyrics to a song? It’s not a lazy walk in the park. Lots of time, you have to wrack your brain for days on end.

It can be easier, if you are in Genge – or, Urbantone – for their audiences hardly give a thought to the lyrics.

Gospel artists have a bigger task. Getting it right means much more than simply reading a part of the Bible that has some impression and starting a melody that fits to the words on your guitar. You need a message that counts.

Besides, you need to make it interesting to grab an audience.

Msanii Foreman is an US-based Kenyan gospel artist and philanthropist. He has an impressive tally of gospel hits under his belt, landmark collabo’s with iconic artists in the industry and an insatiable Kenyan’isque appetite for growth.

Through his music Foreman has increasingly portrayed himself first as an evangelist with a message.

Secondly, with his characteristic energetic stage performances, choreographed video routines and contemporary style – Foreman has also cemented a reputation as a gospel entertainer.

There is a lot of flair and contagious energy in his productions – the kind that will have the congregation (and, party crowds) going nuts with dance!

The video to Foreman’s latest release ‘Kua Tayari’ produced by Sean On The Beat, has caused waves across various genres.

He has featured Moabi Kutu in the banger – the iconic US-based recording artist from Soweto, South Africa. As an individual artist, Kutu’s music is rooted in African rhythms, tonality and spirituality.

US-based South African recording artist Moabi Kutu (file image)

In the ‘Kua Tayari’ collabo, Msanii Foreman and Moabi Kutu have exploited an effortless chemistry to deliver a feel-good, spiritually-uplifting and entertaining sound. The track has enchanting elements of Afro-pop, Lingala and World Music.

The ‘Kua Tayari’ video is especially addictive to watch. No budgets were spared in the dance choreography, costumes and routines. The video directed and shot by Abudja of Ona Tena Media goes all out on cinematography – lighting, scope and all – to deliver the danceable bits of the track.

It is a video that would easily take over Dance Challenge contests on TikTok and other consumer platforms.

If anyone asks, say that ‘Kua Tayari’ by Msanii Foreman featuring Moabi Kutu definitely ranks high on my favorite Gospel tunes. It packs a lot of potential.

Here’s a link to the video. Check it out, share to your gang and hear their opinions.

EXCLUSIVE: Guardian Angel speaks on his music, new album and views how the contemporary Gospel musicians messed up

As we rant about how rotten the gospel music scene is marred by lots of scandals, we never get to ask the same artists direct questions like what went wrong?

We had the chance to speak to gospel artist Guardian Angel, on the issues around this genre of music. The Deka hit maker has managed to stay relevant in the gospel scene for a while now.

We wanted to understand what happens in the gospel scene and where some people went wrong .

In his part he says allowing themselves to divulge in worldly music just to please fans was the breaking point.

Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel revealed that contemporary  gospel music is a a difficult scene to venture in. He said as a gospel artist fans have very high expectations.

Also read: It’s time we started appreciating Guardian Angel’s music

For a guy that started his career back in high school the uphill task of gaining a place in the music industry has not been easy.

He says fans play a very big role in music creation thus get to a point where some have to get more creative to impress fans and not for the glory of God.

I for one for a long time have been a keen follower of what other artists do and truth is  artists have not revere for God.

However Nakuhitaji hit maker managed to pave his way back to the top despite few  sat backs.

As it stands I can confidently say that he is now the reigning king in the contemporary gospel music. I mean fans  love him.

New Album

Thanks to the reception he has received in his latest music he has opted to have a worship album soon.

He said he is in contact with several gospel artists two from Southern Africa and the rest from Kenya that he is pointing at working with for the new album.

Below is the link to the interview. Hope he answers your questions.

Gospel David Wonder goes all repentant in new tear-jerking song ‘Kosa’ (Video)

As the contemporary gospel music scene keeps grappling with uncertainty, singer David Wonder has dropped another song dubbed “Kosa”.

According to him”Kosa’ is a story of a young Christian in trouble after accidentally doing the unthinkable. I mean we all make mistakes.

For David Wonder he uses this opportunity to ask God to forgive him for the mistakes he made.

However, we must aknowledge the fact that he is among artists that are really  struggling. Musically he has been  doing well however since they exited the now shut EMB records his numbers have gone down.

Well as we seek to understand why we delve into this beautiful worship sensation by David.

Lyrics

In a world full of judgement and persecution, the Washangaze hit maker literally breaks down in the song. He highlights his shortcomings as a human being.

For Kosa he starts of metaphorically on how repentant he is.

Niko na damu kwa mkono na nyama kwa mdomo
Nitakulaje?
Na lawama za wana hazifiki kikomo
Nitashibaje?

Nasema Baba nimekosa ooh kosa
Kosea weee
Nisije fanya tu kakosa ooh kosa
Kukosana nawe

When you look at the lyrics he tells of a story of young man’s anger and  impulse that made him kill someone unknowingly.

He says he found his wife cheating on him with his neighbor and did not realize how he got to pick a knife and the next thing he saw his neighbor down lifeless and bloody.

Being sure he is being sought after the police David remorsefully asks God to forgive him for his mistake.

A clear highlight of today’s society where couples end up in such situations because of crimes of passion. Undoubtedly David poured his heart out and in such a tough time many need to get this message.

The audio was produced by  producer Alexix on the beat of Bingwa records  and the video done by ACE of Elexir Nation.

I believe Kenyans should give David Wonder a chance to shine by supporting his music like this one.

For rating I will go with 8/10. Watch the video and tell us what you think.

Guardian Angel pleads with God in “Usinipite”

Usinipite is a gospel song which is like a short prayer to God. The song as the artist Guardian Angel sings, he prays when the Lord passes to bless his people.

He may not pass him by, simple hearty song and prayer as well to many.

Guardian Angel sings that in this life one can get all he wants. But without God in life, many suffer internally with all they got.

Guardian Angel pleads with God in "Usinipite"

Usinipite is a cry to God for help

Thus wealth means nothing without God, for wealth without internal peace is vanity.

The artist tries to emphasize to people about life. Through this his ‘Usinipite’ version, that people should pray for God’s blessings and guidance. This is because in life many pray for earthly things, which no longer bring inside peace. Thus his lyrics, usinipite mwokozi unisikie unapo zuru wengine usinipite.

Being a passing world he continues the lead, asking God for forgiveness. “Kiti chako cha rehema nakitazama magoti napiga pale nisamehewe.” Guardian Angel sings that he depends on God for comfort both heaven and earth. He thus prays to God to keep off people trying to get to his life negatively for him to see heaven.

The song has been well done being a familiar hymnal lyrics. It has a heavy message to us as it is a prayer as well. With these hard times of COVID-19, we should look up to God, to bless us.

For him as well to take the wheel as he passes to bless his people. Thanks to the artist Guardian Angel for his blessing song ‘Usinipite’ for encouraging us.

To add on, it is worth noting that Guardian Angel is talented and Usinipite is just a confirmation.

Considering the song has been done before, his version appears to make it look like a new one.

In conclusion, Guardian Angel gets a rating of 7/10.

Bahati is no longer an artiste but a socialite

Mtoto wa mama alias Bahati is no longer a baby. Bahati seems to enjoy this attention of stardom negative or positive.

Despite all the scandals from the purported “gospel artist,” Bahati might just be headed to the secular scene. How?

So here is the thing the boy’s drama is louder than his music.

Also read: The little drama boy: Bahati’s lost objective in the gospel music industry

The other day it was Bahati arresting his musician Peter Blessing and his producer. Shortly after just as expected he created a new narrative around his collaboration with Boondocks Gang in the “Taniua” song.

I also think that song was utter nonsense! But who cares?

Kere

For long we have tolerated the aspect of disrespecting God that is why we’d dance to music like “Taniua.” Got nothing against Boondocks gang, I mean gengetone is still a thing.

Further, Bahati has identified that fact that Kenyans have a habit of embracing scandals and they chew on in proper. So the question of Bahati opting to be a socialite comes in.

Bahati the Socialite

It all started with the Tv show “Being Bahati ” on NTV. The wanted Kenyans to keep up with what the Bahati’s do. After all its “Mtoto wa mama.”

Maybe when it got to his head he lost his cool focused more on the drama than the music. These saw his close friends like Mr. Seed and David Wonder among others leave EMB label citing indifference.

The other day he was hurling insults at Jamaican deejay G Money calling him gay. See what I mean? But well netizens are unforgiving he got what he asked for lash back.

Well, that happened, then as we still were absorbing the Taniua song he drops another jam in collaboration with the Kansoul dubbed “Kererembe”.

The Kansoul and Bahati

And just as expected Bahati was trending to Twitter being bashed for somewhat switching to the secular scene.

Something that got Willy  Paul welcoming him to the secular music scene. We hoped for more music and less drama.

Also read:“Welcome to my world bro!” Willy Paul applauds Bahati for joining the secular music industry

Or rather if it gets that bad why not shift officially to secular music or just be an artist that does all sorts of music because I insist GOD DESERVES TO BE RESPECTED no in between!

Joyce Omondi energetic praises in “This Is My God”

Joyce Omondi has hit back with a new powerful hit titled This Is My God. The news anchor has it all when it comes to music.

First, you notice how strong her vocals are. I mean this is the kind of voice that will woe you. This Is My God is her first jam in 2020 and I can already tell the year will be good.

To add on, Joyce Omondi is among the few gospel singers who are taking the industry higher. This Is My God has a whole new video. Look at the dance moves and how jovial the singer is.

I doubt there is any other singer with this kind of energy. Joyce Omondi is a talent that needs to be releasing hits a lot.

Joyce Omondi praises Jehovah inThis Is My God

This Is My God is a praise song acknowledging God

This Is My God is simply explained in simple Bible verses. “Who among the gods is like you, Lord? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?

In addition to the strong work, she is basically what has been keeping the gospel industry growing. She might not be releasing jams every now and then but you can attest she is great.

Although the song is being received slowly, This Is My God is just superb. Joyce Omondi needs to try a collaboration with Mercy Masika. I am sure the duo will bring the best.

Joyce Omondi praises Jehovah inThis Is My God

Also, This Is My God is purely based on the word of God. What do I mean? This jam is so Biblical.  Further, into the song, Joyce Omondi shows how mighty her voice is. She is just great in her vocals.

To add on, this song is relevant in relation to Christianity and anyone else who believes in the existence of God. It is open to all be it the old or the young.

In conclusion, This Is My God by Joyce Omondi gets a rating of 6/10.

Guardian angel calls on God for blessings in “Kosi”

Gospel singer Guardian Angel has given his fans Kosi as a new year gift. The celebrated singer is known for his great work in music. As always, he does not disappoint.

Kosi is a lovely praise song in which he praises God for and calls on him to calm him. Guardian Angel is asking God to bless him and protect him from his enemies.

“Nakupa kosi Futa machozi Unitulizee Unitulizee,”

Guardian angel starts the year on a high note on Kosi

Kosi is a prayer to God to bless us

This is the introduction to his lovely song. He says that he has given God work to do. It shows the much trust he has on God.

Also, in the second stanza, Guardian angels go on to ask whatever he wants God to do for him and among them is to hold his hand.

“Moyo wangu unawaka moto, Wale wenye roho ngumu ka kokoto, Wanataka mi niangamie. Nipotelee bwana nichunge kama mtoto,” he says.

In addition, Guardian Angel asks God to prepare a table before his enemies to manifest himself to them. This is a popular verse in the book of Psalms in the Bible. Also to him in Kosi he said it as a prayer request.

Guardian angel starts the year on a high note on Kosi

“Baba andaa meza mbele ya maadui zangu, Nile ninywe nitulie nikutumikie, Mi nikuishie nikukimbilie, Milele kwa hekalu lako nikuhudumie,” says the lyrics.

Actually, the whole song is a prayer for God to bless him and shame his enemies. Am sure most of us this is a prayer for the year. According to him, he needs to feed and feast before their eyes.

Further in Kosi, Guardian Angel says that all he needs is to praise God and serve him diligently.  Also, you’ll notice that this prayer is a good one to begin the year.

Just as many would wish for God to manifest himself in their self this year, you just need to adopt this prayer and make it work.

In conclusion, Guardian Angel gets a rating of 7/10 in Kosi. It is such a great hit.

Alice Kimanzi and Paul Clement treat us to Yuko Mungu

Alice Kimanzi has featured Tanzania’s best Paul Clement to bring us Yuko Mungu. This is a soul searching song that is calm and true.

To add on, this is where we say Kenya meets Tanzania. Yuko Mungu is filled with praise and much love for the supernatural being.

Alice is known for her great taste in music and much love. She is a talented soul who leaves no stones untouched. On the other hand, Paul Clement is a successful lad who has treated music with a lot of love and passion.

Their coming together Yuko Mungu is the best thing ever for it will help promote and grow music from East Africa.

In addition to all the praises above, it is time to get what exactly the song is about. You realise that it is not always they have the same message. Being released at a time when the Christian generation is celebrating the birth of Christ, there is a lot to expect.

Alice Kimanzi and Paul Clement treat us to Yuko Mungu

Yuko Mungu is giving hope that God exists

Mungu anaweza kufanya njia njangwani, na mito ya maji nyikani. Kama alifanya masika na kiangazi. Anaweza kubadili majira pia na nyakati. This stanza introduces the song as well us prepares one for the mood of the song.

In the above stanza, the duo is talking of God’s strength. It indeed conforms with their song’s title, Yuko Mungu.

In the stanza performed by Alice Kimanzi, she talks of how God protects her in the darkness even when her faith is drowning.

Alice Kimanzi and Paul Clement treat us to Yuko Mungu

In the chorus performed by Alice Kimanzi and Paul Clement, Yuko Mungu anayeweza, Yuko Mungu anayetenda, mwamini yeye, mwamini yeye, hutoaibika.  This is the best chorus. Also, there is much that is in the lyrics but we cannot highlight everything.

In conclusion, Yuko Mungu is a hope-giving song. It only requires one to renew their faith in God. Last but not least, the song gets a rating of 7/10.

Mercylinah and Mercy Chinwo make it a church affair as they team up for “Mungu kama wewe”(video)

I once talked of how we desire to have some kind of worship in our churches. That which makes you you feel that despite all the pain you go through there is always a superior being watching over you. Two celebrated gospel artists Mercylinah and Chinwo were recorded singing “Mungu kama wewe”  at Yadah worship fest 2019 .

Also read:South African Pastor Benjamin Dube gives yo reason to go back to church in this jam “Hold me tight”(video)

Well, even as we ponder on what really happened to the church, we must give credit where its due. Mercylinah Wambugu is a Kenyan worship gospel musician who is popularly known for her hit song ‘Nashukuru’.

Mercylinah

Mercy Chinwo is known for  the worship song “Excess love” that she did back in January  2018.

For a duo that has  so much success in the gospel music scene this version of the song is definitely worth your time.

Mungu kama wewe

This is a song that has had so many versions of it by several gospel artists. In this, the two bend so well as they synchronize their voices to bring the heavens down.

In this version the two worship God with their vioces as Mercylinah starts it off with the Swahili parts . Then she is later  joined by Chinwo who inputs her voice that is all strong and full of power.

Her accent and energy throws you in  the blessing and worship mood like never before.

In all forms of despair, the artist have played the lead role as their back up band also did justice by playing at the same tempo.

Basically, even as you look at the video you see sincerity in the worship. Ideally this is what we all need in life. That is there is anything we believe in and well at least as a nation we believe in God.

If you feel down cast I trust this jam will bless your soul. Watch and tell us what you think.

Paul Clement praises God in ‘Mungu Halisi’

Paul Clement is back with a new tune dubbed Mungu Halisi. This jam is nothing but pure bliss. Am positive that you are going to like it.

The singer has had the gospel music industry going for some time now. The Tanzanian singer who is passionate about music really knows what to feed his fans.

One thing for sure is that Paul Clement gives his songs the emotional touch which makes one associate with what he is singing.

To start with, Mungu Halisi delivery is what captures ones attention. The way the band is being played is just amazing. I have not come across such kind of music from today’s generation more so here in Kenya.

Paul Clement praises God in 'Mungu Halisi'

You are the True God

First and foremost, we need to understand the message in Mungu Halisi. Paul Clement is talking about a True God. By this it means that no one can be compared to God as he is all powerful alone.

Ajabu imo ndani yako    Matendo yako bahati Ni kamili, si hadithi Ukitenda umetenda Bwana simply meaning; Wonderful things are to be found in You. Your works are not due to luck .They are perfect, not tales Lord, If You do You’ve done.

In addition, Paul Clement in the second stanza talks of God’s terrifying work as they cause trembling.

Matendo yako Yanatisha kama nini Matendo yako Yanatetemesha.

To add the singer goes ahead to talk of how God is not a fiction, He is not a story but a true living God whose works can be done.

Paul Clement has always given hope to many through his good music and it is a great honor that you’ll find music of his work being played in church.

Mungu Halisi is a song that gospel artistes here in Kenya should embrace and work to improve their music.

In conclusion, this song is just so lit. I even don’t know what to say but Mungu Halisi gets a rating of 7/10.

Video below.

Ps Jackes redeem hearts in ‘Ni fanane na wewe’

Ni fanane na wewe is a gospel rhythm. It narrates on how the artist would want his deeds to be what God wants and thus be like him. He narrates he was told a mistake is never a mistake till it’s repeated. Also it is a world full of friends thus watch out friends who love earthly fan.

Redemption is for one to choose between going to heaven or just remain on earth. What matters most is to have and stick to ones faith without concern on what people say. Faith comes through listening and acknowledging Gods word (Bible). The Bible takes away confusion because God is the final and whole truth and everlasting life.

He continues the lead asking God to hold his hand there’s a harsh storm. Ps Jackes sings he’d want God to be his friend and teach him the way to follow.

Thus asks for guidance on how to forgive and love even those who don’t believe in love. Such a journey for this artists which many people have a real challenge to follow in this life. Jackes asks God to let him be close to him and follow his ways and never bring him shame.

The video is also well done, a simple caliber for a gospel song set to pass a simple message. Indeed the artist has blessed the fans with a good hit. Eko Dydda teams up with newby Piyo to bring us “Rada”

Eko Dydda started off this year on a rather rocky path. This was after the scandalous break up with the mother of his children. Relationships!! That’s just about it.

Anyhow, that did not mark the end of his music career of the gospel music.  Eko Dydda has teamed up with a new face in the industry, Piyo, and brought us a new jam dubbed “Rada”.

The award winning gospel rapper has clearly not brought his A-game.

Rada

From the title of the song you wouldn’t clearly get the message that it was intended. For a leighman Rada is a sheng word that means whats up.

Further as you listen to the song Piyo starts of with some sense of rap that cannot even be interpreted easily. I mean not even Kartelo can-he is the sheng master.

I wold say the lyrical break down for this song was not creatively done or rather thought out.

Eko Dydda being the longest player in this scene should have considered that. Especially for a gospel song this is way below per.

Not hating on Piyo, clearly he is a talent to watch out for but for this song this is  a big flop.

Another thing, is the kind of set up use too is not as catchy thus the reason I say that Eko being a house hold name should have done better.

Considering  this song was to serve as a redeeming power for him then I believe this did not work.

Production

On the good side we must give it to the video editor. For the quality, they did a good job especially doing the beat by beat visual effect.

The color transitions have worked well for the song.

But we also needed to get the message from the first words. I hope am clear on that.

The Song was directed by Didy and the audio  done by Krispha.

For rating purposes unfortunately I will give this a 5/10. Watch and tell us what you think.

‘Kuongozwa’, new gospel in town by Guardian Angel

Guardian Angel is back with a new gospel hit dubbed Kuongozwa. He has been taking the gospel industry ad I must say that his energy never wears out.  To start with, he is among the few who has not had any scandals that has been the case with most artists.

This new single was composed and delivered by Guardian Angel. Also, he is super talented in what he does.

Guardian Angel performs his songs in a way that will capture ones attention. He has invested a lot in emotions. Actually, it makes one feel like they are walking hand in hand with God at the moment.

Guardian Angel taking the gospel industry far; Kuongozwa

Although the gospel industry is still struggling, Guardian Angel is doing wonders.

‘Kuongozwa’ message

Kuongozwa is simply means Whatever I do  Wherever I be  Still it’s God’s hand  That leadeth me. It is such a simple line derived from the Holy book and it means a lot to many.

Also, there is this stanza that really makes me feel good; Lord I surrender Withholding nothing Wacha roho wake nijae For by his sense He leadeth me. You know that moment at the altar. Further he says that he is giving his life to God and leaves nothing behind. What a beautiful song!

Production

In addition to the strong message in Kuongozwa , a lot has been done to make this jam great. First the audio producer did a good job. The audio and the beats are in sync. Also, mixing is well done. This is the work of Vicky Pondis of Simba Sound Production.

Secondly, the video has been given the best. The director is someone to be consulted by many. Directing for this video was done by Kevin Current. The video has met the international standards. To add on that, the choice of background is great and the costume.

As far as the gospel industry is concerned, Guardian Angel is really doing well. Kuongozwa gets a rating of 8/10.

Mercy Masika Says ‘Muite Yesu’ in her new jam

Mercy Masika is back with another praise song ‘Muite Yesu’.  This jam is dope and it is all about seeking for help from God. She says that people should call on God when in a problem and not be silent.

Mercy Masika has been doing well in gospel and her choice of words in her music is just amazing. Is she the only sane artist in this genre of music?

Muite Yesu comes in a few weeks after her last release I love You. This lady is super talented and I like how she gives it her all in her music.

Production

In addition to her voice, there are other things that makes this the best jam today. Most gospel artist rarely give it their all and their sing for money. I don’t think that is the case with Mercy Masika. Muite Yesu has seen a couple of hands at work.

To start with, the jam has been written by Mercy Masika, Pitson Pen and Paper and Tim Still Alive. This is some good work from the duo. It is so smooth and calming and you notice the perfection in it.

Both audio and video was done Still Alive Production. It is a great deal here. The quality of the video and sound is just dope. Graphics and other visuals are just great. The beat to this jam is just wow.

Mercy Masika Kenyan gospel artist

The background is great, the song has been shot in Kenya exposing the beautiful scenery. Also, the choice of costume is good and not overdone.

Delivery of ‘Muite Yesu’

There is a way that Mercy Masika delivers her songs. She brings out the emotions clearly something that makes people enjoy the song. The gospel vibe is felt in her voice and words. Generally, the song is good and it gets a rating of 7/10.
