ICYMI: 5 Former County Governors were Facing Corruption Charges in Court This Week

Five former county governors are expected in court this week to face corruption charges. The cases, which are being prosecuted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), shed light on the pervasive issue of corruption that has plagued various levels of government in Kenya.

The former county bosses include Mike Sonko, Ferdinand Waititu, Moses Lenolkulal, Mwangi wa Iria, and Okoth Obado.

The cases are as follows:

  • Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal: A suit for the recovery of Sh80 million. The amount in question is alleged to be the proceeds of corruption, specifically engaging in a conflict of interest by trading with the County Government of Samburu while serving as the Governor. The former governor is accused of trading with the county government through his business Oryx Service Station.

  • Ferdinand Waititu and Testimony Enterprises: A suit for the recovery of Sh144 million. The funds in question arose from a road construction contract that was awarded through an irregular procurement process.

  • Mike Mbuvi Sonko and 16 Others: Charged with conflict of interest. The allegations revolve around a conspiracy to embezzle Sh24.1 million from the County during Sonko’s tenure.

  • Francis Mwangi Wa Iria and 7 Others: A suit for the recovery of Sh547 million. The funds in question were allegedly paid to Top Image Media Services, a company associated with the former Governor of Murang’a County. The contracts awarded to the company were allegedly obtained through conflicts of interest. Additionally, the case seeks the recovery of two parcels of land purchased using the proceeds of corrupt conduct.

  • Zakaria Okoth Obado and 19 Others: A suit for the recovery of assets valued at Sh73.5 million. These assets are alleged to have been acquired from the proceeds of procurement contracts with the County Government of Migori.

The cases are a reminder of the pervasive issue of corruption in Kenya. It is important to hold those in power accountable for their actions, and to ensure that the proceeds of corruption are recovered.

The EACC has been praised for its efforts to prosecute corruption cases. However, more needs to be done to ensure that the cases are successful. The EACC needs to be adequately funded and supported by the government. Additionally, the judiciary needs to be impartial and independent.

King Kaka sparks huge nationwide debate with latest release ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’ (Video)

Award-winning Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has been the talk of the town over the last few days after releasing a rather controversial song.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The jam titled Wajinga Nyinyi, which loosely translates to you fools, calls on Kenyans to rise up against vices such as corruption, tribalism, nepotism, favoritism and what have you.

In the song, which has so far crossed the 1 million views mark on YouTube, King Kaka tells Kenyans to avoid divisive politics and picking candidates not on the basis of merit but because they belong to the same tribe.

He also mentions various leaders who have been charged with corruption such as; Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

King Kaka further lambastes Kenyans, including clerics, for showering corrupt leaders with praise rather than telling them the truth. He compares the behavior to that of a fool saying:

“Si basi wakam kwa church watoe pesa tulitoa kama tax, na pastor ana-kiss ass ampatie hadi asome ka-verse, na sisi tuko busy wajinga nyinyi tunaclap.”

He goes on to explain the dire situation that Kenyans have to put up with such as unemployment, stalled government projects, being jailed for petty offences, inflation, high taxation, crime, bribery etc.

The Niko Kwa Jam Nakam hit maker claims that he’s not afraid of dying if that’s what it will take for us to realize the mess that we are in saying, “Wakinisnipe tonight si mnajua ni kwa nini, ntakufia watu siogopi mimi.”

King Kaka

The song, which is in the form of spoken words, has elicited mixed reactions since it was released and to be honest, I really love it because it has served as a wake up call to most of us who were too comfortable.

The violin that is playing in the background as King Kaka flows brings a sombre mood and helps you put things into perspective so does the video which was directed by a chap known as CJ.

Generally speaking, this jam which is the fourth single from King Kaka’s upcoming mixtape titled The Servant & The King is a masterpiece which might just start a revolution, if it has not already done that.

Malice or just a concerned boss? Waititu sends Moses Kuria’s brother on compulsory leave… But Kabogo smells mischief

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has instructed Moses Kuria’s brother John Ngigi Kuria to go on a compulsory leave starting January 2nd.

In a letter to John Ngigi who serves as Chief Officer in charge of Agriculture, Crop Production, Irrigation and Marketing in Kiambu county, Waititu notes that Kuria’s brother hasn’t been taking his annual leave as required.

The Kiambu governor orders Kuria’s brother to surrender all county property before taking the compulsory leave with immediate effect.

Malice

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo was quick to sneer at Kabogo’s letter to Kuria’s brother instructing him to go on a compulsory leave.

Kabogo took to Twitter to suggest that Waititu was hitting back at Moses Kuria by sending his brother on a compulsory leave. His claims that the letter to Moses Kuria’s brother is some sort of retaliation.

Photos+Video: Kabogo parties hard with Harmonize along Kiambu Road

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has joined a long list of other politicians who are be-friending Tanzanian artists. In the past, we have seen Hassan Joho, Sonko and even Raila enjoying the company of artists from the country.

Photos and video of Kabogo and singer Harmonize in a club have now emerged. It also seems Kabogo was in the company of an identified light-skinned woman.

In the photos that have Kabogo clad in a red t-shirt, a matching cap and blue jeans, while his companion was donning a short black and white checkered dress with a blue coat, Kabogo is seen to enjoying the night at a popular club, probably in the VIP section, judging by the small crowd present there.

Meet and Greet

Harmonize was in whiskey River Lounge, a popular club along Kiambu Road launched recently. He had made an appearance for a meet and greet where he met Kabogo and other celebrities before he goes for a performance in Nakuru.

“YOO …!!! NAIROBI #KONDEBOY NIKO HAPA TUPATANE @whiskeyriver_ke BADAE MIDA YA 9:00 PM NITAKUWA HAPO JUST FOR YOU THIS IS SPECIAL NIGHT FOR YOU ??? MEET & GREET TUMWAGE MA SELFIE ????????? MJUZE MWENZIO MWAMBIE NIKO HAPA…!!!!

Super hilarious memes after Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu demands rivers relocated instead of buildings demolished

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has opposed the demolition of buildings on riparian lands, instead Baba Yao wants rivers to be moved and the buildings spared.

Speaking on Sunday August 12th during a church service in Kikuyu constituency, Waititu says owners of buildings on riparian lands should be made to move the rivers to flow on other land.

“Kama watu wanasupport ubomoaji, mimi hapana support. Mambo iangaliwe kama kuna nyumba yako imekaribiana na mto, wewe uambiwe ni gharama yako kuhakikisha hiyo mto imesonga kidogo. Lakini kubomoa nyumba is not a solution. Honestly speaking. It’s such a big loss,” said Mr Waititu.

Reactions

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) went HAM on Waititu following his ridiculous statement. The Kiambu governor was savagely trolled in tweets and memes. Take a look below:
