Renowned Kenyan gospel musician Eko Dydda is the latest artist to defend the rights of local Dj’s to play local music. Dydda has recognized one the local DJ’s complaints; DJ Carlos, who has posted on social media about local restrictions, which hold them back. In addition, the DJ claims that South African DJ’s can be given shows in Kenya but Kenyan DJ’s can’t be given a show in South Africa.
He wrote,
”I’ve been living in SA for 17 years Now, hakuna DJ unaweza convince wa SA acheze ngoma ya Kenya.. Ask yourself mbona DJs wa SA wanapewa show Kenya na Kenyan DJs hawaendi SA?
It’s coz SA hawawezi ita DJ anacheza ngoma zao na mwenye hizo ngoma yuko around. Mimi nangoja nisikie Black Coffee ame make Mix ya Gengetone.”
Backing him up, Eko Dydda responded,
”I agree with you 100% PLAY MINE MTU AKIKUULIZA NIAMBIE. It’s crazy how some people come up with laws that don’t even benefit the ARTISTS but hurt them more. Hizo pesa wanasumbulia DJ’s hata sisi wasanii hazitufikii so you can figure out what their main aim is (to enrich themselves at the cost of the creatives livelihood). Cheza yangu KIMANGOTOS wakiuliza watume kwangu…
DJs wapewe freedom yakucheza local, starting with mine…”
I totally agree on this. Why should there be restrictions to local DJs for playing our own music?
