Kenya Film and Classification Board boss has stop the airing of DJ Afro movies on a popular Kikuyu TV channel. KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua took to social media to share that the body had to cut the movies from airing saying that they should be submitted for examination and classification for age suitability.
On Facebook he posted a bunch of pictures with Gikuyu TV’s management and DJ Afro discussing the matter and the way forward. For those who have no idea who DJ Afro is, this is just not an ordinary DJ.
Examination
Afro translates and narrates movies making it easy for those struggling with English to understand what’s going on. He’s been doing it for over 20 years now. Mutua shared DJ Afro and Gikuyu TV will be submitting the movies first for examinations before airing.
“Today KFCB management met with the controversial James Muigai aka DJ Afro, his promoter and manager following our banning of his unpalatable content aired on Gikuyu TV and also distributed by unscrupulous business people and exhibited in public places without approval by the Board. DJ Afro admitted the illegality of his actions and took responsibility for the same while pointing out that the content being distributed and exhibited across the country is an illegal reproduction of his works done many years ago.
“It was agreed that the Board will communicate its position to the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government to have the culprits arrested and the illegal material destroyed and that Gikuyu TV will suspend forthwith the airing of unrated material. All content generated by DJ Afro will be submitted for examination and classification for age suitability.”
