Is Chimano falling off? Here’s why we think so

Chimani is one of the members of the biggest group Kenya has ever produced; a gift from East Africa to the world. It would seem that after they signed an international record deal, they ran afoul of the rules of engagement and as such, were unable to produce albums and music.

“It’s a big deal” Sauti Sol’s Chimano weighs in on possibility of having kids in future

A compromise they arrived at was to make solo projects and when they started, there was a lot of gusto to their wind. They really took the internet by storm as well as entertainment scene with each of them releasing certified bangers.

Princess Chimano turning heads

Chimano’s particular foray into solo artistry was the song Friday Feeling which was a rather outstanding submission. It truly did set him head and shoulders above his Sauti Sol peers as it showcased his amazing vocal range and allowed him to create art that he loves.

Don’t Judge Him- Sauti Sol’s Savara Defends Chimano Against Online H@te After Coming Out As A Member Of LGBTQ

He got to do an 80s disco sort of sound which was far removed from what we were accustomed to hearing from Sauti Sol. We loved to watch him do him. However, there seems to have a huge disconnect because, after this song, his subsequent views on YouTube plummeted.

His first single has garnered close to a million views (928K as of the writing of this post). 11 months ago he released Hallelujah which has 145K views. 10 months ago he released Freedom which has 131K views. 8 months ago he released Beautiful Day which has 36K views. Somethings up.

Chimano explains why he decided to come out as LGBTQ

So what might that be? Well, I am here to make the case that his affiliation with the LGBTQ is the issue. Kenyans are very good at don’t ask, don’t tell being their guiding philosophy. We don’t really care what you do in the confines of your house as long as it sticks there.

Can your boyfriend even? Chimano slaying!

Chimano decided to come out of the closet and while that’s his right, it cast a tall shadow on his career. It has gotten to a point where people get mocked for playing his music. You will never hear his music play in most clubs despite those of his bandmates playing because no one will stand to dance to it -at least not straight men (and a lot of their ladies).

Lil NasX parallels: Looking forward to the storm Chimano will kick up

Kenya is not entirely comfortable with the idea of embracing the LGBTQ and right now the banter is at an all-time high. So whenever you’re in the car, get the aux or connect to the Bluetooth to play Chimano’s music, guys will troll you for being “elugibitikiu“.

Chimano

Believe to or not, for your m, music to do well, it must cut across a wide audience. Sure you can have your niche but you will not have a long and fruitful career unless they are as ardent and committed as Just A Band’s. Chimano needs to now start creating concerts for his fans who can come out as they are and do so every Friday of the month because your average morio hadai kuskiza ngoma za  elugibitikiu. But even then, he has a Herculean task ahead of him as a solo artist and the proof is in the pudding. It isn’t normal for the first single to hit 1 million views and for the next subsequent singles to struggle to get to a quarter of that.

In Kenya, politics and entertainment are about more than just substance, its all about perception and now that he is seen as a homosexual, his fans are automatically tagged as such. So not alot of men want to endure that banter.

It sucks, it truly does because he is such a talented soul but thems the brakes.

Why celebrity LGBTQ relationships are tumultuous

Kenya has some rather brave celebrities who are openly LGBTQ. To understand why I label them as brave, you need to understand that Kenya is a very conservative nation and regardless of how things appear on the surface in cosmopolitan cities like Mombasa and Nairobi, homosexuality is still frowned upon.

LGBTQ is the new Nairobi counter-culture movement

As a result, for the longest time, some celebrities, like their fellow members of the LGBTQ community have had to live in the closet to avoid facing the wrath of members of the general public, some of whom would willingly harm them simply for their sexual orientation.

That is why I would expect the openly gay celebs to have very strong relationships with each other because they aren’t just a minority but a persecuted one at that. You would think that this would make them band together in a celebration of the one thing they are forced to publicly deny themselves: love.

Anita Nderu Weighs In On Banning Of Gay Students From Boarding Schools by Magoha, Says She Supports LGBTQ Community

Instead, whenever you hear of LGBTQ celebs and look at their love lives, they are littered with heartbreaks and betrayals. I mean, look at Michelle Ntalami and Makena Njeri’s relationship. Look at Makena Njeri and her ex. Look at Brenda Johns and Phy Lamar. Fam, those are some hella unstable messes. Noti Flow and King Alami.

And I think I know why those relationships are about as stable as a two-legged stool. It has to do with two factors: the first being the repercussions of having to hide who you are for most of your life. Think about it if you will. Imagine having to deny a huge part of what makes you, you. It would be akin to having to hide your arms all your life.

Chimano explains why he decided to come out as LGBTQ

As a result, most of these LGBTQ celebs who have finally found acceptance in their small community, those who can now date freely are exploring what it means to do just that, date freely. And unfortunately, honesty is what they are sacrificing at the altar of newfound freedom.

Noti Flow serving fans with thirst trap image

It’s like “starvation syndrome”. You were denied love and affection, hell, even infatuation and requited lust and now you have it albeit in a small community and it is a buffet because all the other members have experienced the same thing. So what do you think these people do? They binge. And as a result, those who are in relationships cheat.

‘F*k All LGBTQI Community!’ Lexxy Yung Disses Gayism, Terms It As Inappropriate And Evil

The second reason their relationships are so unstable is that they live in total fear. As a result of constantly being in survival mode, most LGBTQ celebrities are caught up in living their dream vicariously. So what if they have a partner? That won’t stop them from enjoying life because lord alone knows what would happen if they met with the worst dredges of society (criminals) who might just harm them.

Brenda Jon

And the same group doesn’t have an older, more grounded class that can advise them on how to settle into their lives and live them peacefully. When they look for role models, all they can see are the loud, crappy examples of the likes of Kaz Lucas and her throuple. These relationships are indeed exciting but they do not last long. And when they end, things tend to get toxic.

Xtiandela LGBTQ platform will cost him his political ambition

So what you inevitably get in a lot of these celebrity LGBTQ couples, is a lack of balance that is grounded in reality and the truth that life is mundane. If you want a flashy, imbalanced relationship, sure it will be exciting but it will inevitably explode. And that is why you cannot mention a single LGBTQ relationship that was not preceded by or will itself explode in failure.

Chimano vs Diana B: Who has the better song?

Chimano released Friday Feeling and Diana B has released 2 songs, Hatutaachana and One Day and I want to compare her first song to Chimano’s release… I know what you’re thinking, that this is very unfair and I agree but she has been saying that her song is the epitome of Kenyan entertainment…  Sigh.

Willy Paul Releases Diss Track Aimed At Diana, Bahati & Eric Omondi (Video)

So Chimano released a true work of art, his song, Friday Feeling broke away from the stereotypical expected Kenyan and East African sound in a fantastic way and had a daring video to go along with it that celebrates (as many say) Chimano’s orientation.

Diana Marua

On the other hand, bro, no kidding, Diana B’s song has been described as trash by the likes of DNA and others who are doubtless reacting to the fact that she raps like she is part of Ogopa DJ’s first roster of stars back in 2000. She literally made a song that sounded dated without it being ironic nor an ode to an old sound.

Lil NasX parallels: Looking forward to the storm Chimano will kick up

That is the first way in which Chimano’s song comes off as superior. It is done to an old school electro-disco sounding instrumental and the music video pays homage to the fact. Remember when Dave Chapelle said he missed the old school gays? The tough gays? This is a throwback to that era.

Whereas Diana B’s song is just underwhelming. I am saddened that YouTube has removed the dislike counter because I suspect that most of its listeners on the platform simply ratioed it to oblivion. Why do I say so? Because the likes and views do not add up to paint a favourable reception of the song.

“I never felt like I belonged,” Sauti Sol’s Chimano opens up on being a socially awkward child (Video)

Add to this the lyrics… Man, oh man, Diana B’s song is like a nursery rhyme. A great reminder that we do not need rap music to simply rhyme like it was written by Dr Seuss. There is nothing artistic nor poetic about rhyming hatuachani with chini. I mean, she literally proves to everyone that rap music is about more than just talking on an instrumental. You need flow and charisma. Hell, even cadence is needed.

I must admit that this is a rather unfair comparison between a seasoned artist and a lady married to a musician who put out a lazy musical offering but I am justified to make the comparison because she is declaring her song as the best thing in the 254 since Esir blessed a mic. I guess she is living proof that talent is not an STI nor does it come from being in the studio as her husband “cooks up a hit song”.

Another hint from Chimano

My verdict? I am not going to be as bold as to call Diana B’s song trash but I would advise her to try working with two producers rather than one. They will then be able to craft a song for her that actually sounds pleasing rather than it being a gimmick.

Lil NasX parallels: Looking forward to the storm Chimano will kick up

Chimano has released a brand new song that is very interesting. The guy has released a brand new song that does what he enjoys doing: teasing Lil Nas X vibes and I have to say that I really enjoy it when he does this because of two reasons -the first being that he seems to be having a lot of fun and the second that he gives me content to talk about.

So if you don’t know what I am talking about, allow me to elucidate. The baritone voiced singer released a song called Friday Feeling that is an electro slash disco jam with a very bright and colourful music video that has his entire cast (which includes a lot of very rainbow flaunting cameos) dancing and gyrating in -let’s just say- suggestive ways.

Another hint from Chimano

I can already imagine the furore the video has raised in certain circles that aren’t too familiar with the rather loud whispers about Chimano’s orientation. Guys like former Kenya Film Board CEO, Ezekiel Mutua, must have been rendered apoplectic when they saw the video (if he has). And indeed, some of the comments with regards to the video have been right in the vein of what you would expect from a country as conservative as Kenya.

Although he also had supporters of his art:

And this is why I am so excited about the song, its video and the album for which it is the lead single. Chimano is going to force Nairobians to have a very uncomfortable debate that is very necessary. I say Nairobians because anyone who has spent a significant amount of time outside the expat and pretentious quasi-intelligentsia circles of Nairobi knows that Kenya is still firmly conservative.

However, homosexuals are human beings and like everyone on God’s green earth, they deserve respect and dignity. They deserve their rights to be maintained and upheld. So this tees off a fight between the more conservative religious circles in Nairobi and the LGBTQ cohort that is demanding to be seen and respected. And this is a very powerful rallying call for them that Chimano has inadvertently begun to not only champion but captain their cause.

He, however, has not come out to claim the flag. He is still very coy and playful about making a stand and saying whether or not he is gay. That is up to him and until he comes out of the proverbial closet (if indeed he is in one), no one should ever try to put him in a box and claim him to be one way or another.

Chimano in the garden of Eden giving Eve a run for her money!

Still, the nuance of his latest music submission is that he has taken a side and that is that. See how duality works? He is now the face for the LGBTQ community. And I get it, the rumours had already firmly put him into the bracket but now he is their face. So now people will use his behaviour as a barometer for homosexuality. His face will be the one anti-homosexual factions target.

Whatever the case may be and wherever he stands, one thing is certain, we are in for some very interesting conversations.

Chimano confessing to cosmetic surgery just might inspire Kenyan men

Chimano had some botox done to his armpits to stop him from sweating. I would assume his sweating was above and beyond what most would consider normal. And if not, then he simply made a decision about his body as an adult.

Another one! Sauti Sol´s Chimano´s latest fashion trend gets Kenyans talking

And Chimano would be the first Kenyan celebrity to openly admit to having cosmetic surgery done to his body and while it is only a minor elective procedure, his admission could be a huge boon for Kenyan cosmetologists and plastic surgeons.

chimano

You see, we have had female socialites and celebrities announce they have had cosmetic surgery done to augment their looks. Women such as Vera Sidika and Huddah Monroe have publicly announced and detailed what work was done on them.

Being the only Sauti Sol member single, Chimano is not in a hurry to marry:I’m yet to find someone who got what I’m looking for

However, when it comes to men, Chimano is the first. And there is a myriad of cosmetic procedures men can perform. From hair transplants when they go bald -a procedure Joho is rumoured to have undergone but he has never confirmed it, to liposuction and even phallus enlargement.

chimano

The door would be opened wide for men who want to augment their looks and Chimano will have been the catalyst needed. In Africa, it is not exactly viewed as masculine for a man to admit he not only wanted to change some aspect of his body and that he chose to go to a doctor to make that a reality.

Gay or Straight? Kenyans debate after Sauti Sol’s Chimano’s photo

Yet here we have a member of one of the most successful Kenyan entertainment bands, a man who cannot possibly want for much more after having scaled the heights of success as prescribed by any professional entertainers. So when you see the confidence with which Chimano spoke, you cannot help but feel he has tipped the scales and given many men the confidence to start trying to live their best lives.

Rare photo of Chimano warming up to TRHK’s actress, Truphena

The real housewives of Kawagware’s actress Truphena must be excited to have met and hanged out with Sauti Sol’s Chimano who is popularly known for his unique voice and fashionable taste.

Chimano is however not one who easily mingles with people. For some reason many tend to see him as an unfriendly fella…however it is nothing personal but just business for him.

Just recently he got to hang out with actress Truphena who later shared a photo hanging out with the Sauti Sol’s singer. Judging from how cozy the two look, it is no secret that Chimano is a fan of the actress. Below is the photo Truphena shared;
