President Uhuru: Late Bruce Odhiambo helped me straighten up my son Jomo, I will ensure his children complete education and settle in life 

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga were among mourned who gathered in Koru, Kisumu county during the burial ceremony for music legend Bruce Odhiambo.

Uhuru and the late music producer were close friends, the two were classmates at St. Mary’s School where they met and became friends until Bruce’s death.

Uhuru eulogized his late friend during his burial in Koru, he revealed that Bruce helped him straighten up his son Jomo Kenyatta.

“He was a mentor to many young people including my very own son Jomo whom he helped me straighten out and that is why I have come here today to celebrate a man who means a lot to my family,” said Uhuru.

His children will settle in life

Uhuru said that he will stand with Bruce’s family and also assured them of his help. The president further stated that he will ensure that the deceased’s children complete school and also settle in life.

“I am making this promise not as the president but as a brother of the man who is lying here. We shall ensure these children complete education and settle in life. We shall support you to keep his company alive and moving because he would have done the same for us,” said Uhuru.

Homeboyz Radio presenter Talia Oyando gave a moving tribute during Bruce Odhiambo requiem mass yesterday at Nairobi Baptist Church in an event that was star studded.

On Thursday family, friends and well-wishers gathered at the Nairobi Baptist Church for a memorial service for the fallen music producer.

Talia gave a moving speech of how Bruce supported him after she lost her job.

“I remember when I lost my job, he fed me every single day, every day,” Talia said in tears. 

“He knew I was so proud to ask for help, we were neighbors. When I did not have money, he gave me money and told me as a joke, ebu just go buy that. I want to tell you thank you, for calling me all the time just to make sure I was okay.”

She added:

“Save a place for me as you sing with the angels. I have lost a true friend, rest in peace Bruce Odhiambo, rest in peace father.”

The former Youth Enterprise and Development Fund (YEDF) board Chairman died on 4th January at the Nairobi Hospital after a battle with heart condition.

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta was among those who paid tribute to Bruce, she eulogized the deceased as a trailblazer with an unmatched zeal to support local talent and artistes.

Margaret recounted how Bruce greatly contributed to her Beyond Zero campaign. She said that no words could adequately describe Bruce’s role in the building of the Beyond Zero brand to its current status.

The fallen music producer will be buried on Saturday January 19th, the burial will be held at Bruce’s rural home in Koru, Kisumu county.

Former Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) Chairman Bruce Odhiambo has passed on at Nairobi Hospital. Bruce was admitted at the facility in December 2018.

The deceased had traveled to India in October 2018 to replace his pacemaker – a small device that is placed in the chest or abdomen to help the heart to beat at a normal rate.

Bruce developed complications when he came back to Kenya in November, he was rushed to Nairobi hospital in December when his condition became critical.

On Saturday January 5th 2019, the former YEDF chairman suffered a cardiac arrest and had to be put on life support. His situation was made public by rapper Madtraxx.

KOT reactions as former Youth Fund CEO Catherine Namuye dies mysteriously in her apartment in Kileleshwa

There were mixed reactions on Twitter when news about Catherine Namuye death was announced. The former Youth Enterprise Development Fund CEO mysteriously died in her Kileleshwa apartment on Wednesday October 4th.

Nation reports that the deceased just collapsed and died in her apartment. She was pronounced dead by medics who were called upon when she collapsed. Namuye’s body was taken to Lee Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem examination.

The deceased together with former Youth Fund board chairman Bruce Odhiambo were charged with 12 counts of corruption in relation to the loss of Kes 180 million of taxpayers’ money in 2016 (that explains the noise some tweeps were making).

Namuye and Bruce Odhiambo were accused of receiving Kes 4.5 million and Kes 1.8 million in kickbacks from Quorandum Limited for awarding the company (Quorandum Limited) a Kes 180 million tender to design a comprehensive ICT strategy and Enterprise Resource Planning design.

National Assembly Public Investment Committee (PIC) determined that Quorandum Limited was a non-prequalified contractor and that the whole tender was a conspiracy to defraud the public.
