Comedian Njugush shares his takeaways from Dave Chappelle’s Nairobi show

Renowned American comedian Dave Chappelle recently performed a two-hour stand-up show at the Louis Leakey Auditorium in Nairobi, captivating the audience with his unique humor.

However, Chappelle’s visit sparked discussions about why he didn’t engage with the Kenyan government, unlike his visit to Rwanda where he met with the president.

Comedian Timothy Kimani, popularly known as Njugush, shared his thoughts on the matter in an interview with Nairobi News. He explained that the politics of event planning often dictate such interactions.

“With every establishment comes the right to host. The right to admit always comes with whoever is planning an event. If I decide that you are not going to be at TTNT, you are not going to be admitted. When Chappelle says he only wants a certain number of people, it means they are doing something right. That is why they were chosen over everyone else,” Njugush said.

Chappelle’s performance in Nairobi adhered to his famous ‘no phone’ rule, meaning no smartphones were allowed in the auditorium. Tickets for the sold-out event cost Sh7,000, and attendees were not allowed to share their experiences until after the show. This policy, while typical for Chappelle, left many Kenyans curious about the rationale behind it.

Reflecting on the wider implications, Njugush expressed concern about how Kenya handles potential investments and engagements with international figures.

“My main issue is how we do things as a country because if you look at what happened in Rwanda, Chappelle went there and he met the president and they talked. In Kenya, even his arrival was not announced. That tells you something about us as a country. Let alone content creation. There are times when people want to invest here but they are not allowed. They end up running away and investing in another country. My main concern is how we as a country deal with potential investments,” Njugush noted.

Njugush claimed that if the Kenyan entertainment industry had wanted to arrange a meeting with Chappelle, it could have been done. He also urged Kenyans to temper their expectations about Chappelle’s motives for the visit.

“The worst mistake Kenyans should make is to think that Chappelle is coming to Kenya to support them. All they can do is borrow his ideas, the way he does his scripts, and what he stands for,” Njugush advised.

Chappelle will visit Kenya again in November.

Njugush Educates Citizen TV on the 2024 Finance Bill

Comedian Timothy Kimani, known as Njugush, surprised viewers with his insightful commentary during Citizen TV’s discussion on the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Njugush displayed an impressive understanding of the bill’s intricacies, particularly highlighting the government’s difficulty in conveying the proposed tax measures to the public.

He voiced his frustration with the perceived inefficiency in tax collection, citing scandals like the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) corruption case.

“The government experts are failing to communicate clearly,” Njugush remarked. “Our problem isn’t collecting taxes, it’s spending them!”

He also argued that higher taxes would negatively impact sectors like content creation, which depend on Kenyans’ disposable income.

Njugush demands government transparency regarding taxation of Kenyans

Renowned comedian Njugush, whose real name is Timothy Kimani, has been outspoken about the government’s taxation policies, particularly those affecting Kenyan citizens.

In 2023, Njugush criticized the government’s proposal to impose a 15% tax on content creators, emphasizing the financial strain it would place on individuals in the creative industry.

He also expressed concerns about the housing levy included in the proposed Finance Bill 2023. Njugush argued that while building affordable housing is a commendable goal, it should not take precedence over other urgent national issues.

“Building affordable houses is a commendable initiative, but there are critical aspects that need clarification,” Njugush said.

Initially, the government proposed a 3% contribution from all employees to the housing fund, which was later revised to 1.5%, with employers matching this contribution for each employee.

In a recent interview with Nairobi News, Njugush clarified that his criticisms were not directed at specific individuals but were instead meant to advocate for the welfare of the Kenyan people.

“The president does not have time to question my opinion about the government and why I say what I say. Just as we have an opposition, as creatives we should stand up for our people,” Njugush explained.

When asked what he would like to see the government do, Njugush emphasized the need to tackle corruption and ensure transparency in the use of taxes, which would address public concerns.

“What I want the government to do is tackle corruption. It is not that Kenyans do not like paying taxes; they are just concerned about where the money goes. If corruption was tackled in Kenya, paying taxes would not be an issue,” he said.

Njugush highlighted the potential benefits of effectively using tax revenues to improve health and education services, underscoring the importance of accountability and public trust in government institutions.

“You will be happy to pay taxes if you are sure that when you go to the hospital, you will not have to pay for treatment and if that money can be used to improve the quality of our public schools.”

On May 13, President Ruto stated his intention to raise the country’s average tax rate from 14 percent to 16 percent by the end of 2024, with a target of reaching between 20 and 22 percent by the end of his term.

DNA comes out in support of Jua Cali, says Njugush not funny

Kenyan rapper DNA has joined the debate on comedian Njugush’s content, echoing the sentiments of fellow rapper Jua Cali that Njugush’s comedic prowess has diminished over the years.

DNA, whose real name is Dennis Kaggia, said in a video on Instagram that Njugush’s current style of comedy is more of theater as opposed to stand-up comedy. He also pointed out that Njugush’s collaboration with his wife, who is relatively new to the industry, had changed the dynamics of his performances.

“What Njugush is doing now is theater comedy, not stand-up comedy,” DNA said. “He and his wife come up with a skit on how to present it. That’s theater, not standup comedy.”

DNA also questioned how Njugush, with over a decade of experience in the industry, chose to partner with his wife for their comedic ventures.

“Australian fans were mad because they were ready for stand-up comedy, not theater,” the rapper said.

DNA said he has nothing personal against Njugush, but that he believes it is important to acknowledge the changes in his performances.

The debate on Njugush’s content started after he and his wife, Celestine Ndinda, performed in different cities in Australia last weekend. The couple thereafter expressed their gratitude to their fans in the diaspora for attending their sold-out shows.

However, a video clip that seemed to depict Njugush struggling to entertain the audience went viral, resulting in awkward silence. This sparked a heated debate within the entertainment industry, with many coming to Njugush’s defense while blasting Jua Cali for his remarks.

Under mounting pressure from Njugush’s fans, Jua Cali eventually apologized and withdrew his statement.

However, DNA’s comments have now reignited the debate, with some people agreeing with him while others defending Njugush.

It remains to be seen how Njugush will respond to the latest criticism. However, it is clear that his recent performances have not been well-received by everyone.

Tough moment Celestine Ndinda watched as other kids walked around while Tugi could not even move (Video)

Tugi Kimani, an intelligent, quick-witted 2-year old boy born to comedian couple Njugush and Celestine Ndinda has become a charm to many but his early baby stages were not easy for his parents.

She chose to engage her pediatrician, in an open professional chat where she let in her fans as well, just in case anyone would benefit from it.

The revelation

During their talk, the Doctor happened to mention that a ‘normal’ child should be able to sit well by around 6 months but with some support.

Then at around 9 months, the baby should be able to firmly stand but with some support and achieve balance.

Then by 1 year, the kid should be moving around.

However, for Celestine Ndinda, that was not the case. She mentions that at 12 months, Tugi could not even move around like the rest of the kids.

“Apo ndio I think my Tugi alikaa. It took time for him to be able to walk,” she reveals.

Baby Tugi

So bad was it that every time they attended Sunday service, she could see other young children, especially girls even younger than Tugi, beautifully walk around in those gorgeous stockings and wonder how.

“Tunaenda Sunday school ama Church na unaona watoto wengine wadogo kwanza wasichana wako na stockings, wanatembea. Na Tugi hajawai songa, na huyo msichana anatembea ni mdogo kuliko Tugi,” she openly admits.

Looking quite concerned even though that happened to Tugi months ago, the doctor had to intervene and tell Cele that every child has their own time.

The most recent case being a time when his dad caught him in the car with eyes soaked in tears and you could hardly tell whether this kid was being funny or was actually in pain.

The scenario

So innocent-looking and he can easily make you pity him. He was explaining to his dad how he was crying because he was afraid of a door knob that did not seem to make sense to him.

Njugush was busy laughing at the 2-year old from behind the camera because it just did not make sense how one would cry because they are afraid.

The whole scenario quickly turned into a fun scene, with Tugi letting go of his fears after Njugush showered him with endless love. Pretty intelligent though, after his dad wiped off tears from his right eye, the kid was quick to turn his left eye as well.

Njugush with son enjoying nature’s goodness

Surprised by the move, Njugush sounded quite impressed with his son.

The funny part came in after the comedian told his son “Love You”, who quickly responded saying;

Love you, like the big elephant in the Tsavo.

“Aww!” Njugush sweetly remarked. Tugi’s innocence and high level of intelligence, will leave you cracking your ribs. Have a listen:

Why comedian Njugush’s new gym workout photo is driving mafisilets crazy

Popular comedy kid, Njugush has lit up the internet after a photo of him flexing his muscles saw his little man conspicuously pop out of his shorts, to the excitement of many.

Known for his reserved nature, baba Tugi was trying to flaunt the fruits of his new workout plan, only for his sleeveless shirt to parade all that was going on in his screaming yellow tight short.

This is not the first time the comedian has treated online fans to such photos of himself, having paraded his manhood during their recent family staycation while wearing tight biker shorts that left little to imagination.

Meanwhile, his wife Celestine Ndinda tried her best to cover her nakedness with a long chiffon top while avoiding the camera lens.

Celestine Ndinda is probably a storm we never saw coming. Pretty humbled and a down-to-earth wife and mom.

Addressed by many as Wakavinye, Mrs Njugush has never cared much about how she looks or which fashion trends she needs to chase after, as long as she is comfortable in what she wears, then that will carry the day.

Baby Tugi is an interesting kid, young but so creative, sharp and a brave young man. Many would claim its characteristic of his comedian of a dad but his mum has proven competitive too.

The young kid has probably trended more times that any of his parents, not because his parents are not good at what they do, but because this kid is special.

Blessed Njugush with wife Celestine and son Tugi

If you have come across just one or two videos of this young kid, you know what I mean, this kid is adorable yet so razor-sharp.

He is actually more funny compared to his parents – so I think, probably because of his innocent, young soul that bewitches our hearts but either way, we cant deny the charm and life this kid brings to fans.
