Avril’s Appeal to Men on Combating Femicide

Avril has emphasized the crucial role men play in addressing and transforming attitudes surrounding gender-based violence.

With femicide becoming a pressing issue due to the rising number of cases and debates it has sparked, Avril took to social media to express her thoughts. She highlighted the importance of men becoming allies and agents of change in the fight against violence toward women.

“I can tell you for a FACT that every woman you know has a story where they’ve felt unsafe, scared, looked at the wrong way, vulnerable, were downright followed, or much worse,” she wrote.

Avril pointed to societal inequalities as a driving factor behind violence against women, sharing examples of everyday precautions women take to ensure their safety:
“Every woman you know has either carried an extra jacket, shared her location, pretended to be on a phone call while in a cab, avoided being rude to strangers, stayed hyper-vigilant in public, worn only one earphone, or carried pepper spray.”

She explained that women live with the constant fear that they could become victims of violence, often at the hands of men.
“Every woman you know lives with the constant reminder that it could be them any day. Every woman you know thanks her lucky stars it wasn’t them today.”

Avril added, “When a man sees a shadow on a dark night, they’re scared it could be a ghost. When a woman sees that shadow, they’re scared it could be a man.” She stressed that gender-based violence should not be viewed as a “women’s issue” alone.

“For men who are quick to say, ‘not all men,’ or ‘we’re the good guys,’ or suggest ‘teach women self-defense,’ understand that this isn’t JUST a women’s problem. When half the population lives this way, it’s a macro problem.”

She called on men to take an active role in creating change by addressing harmful behavior within their circles and speaking out against inappropriate actions or jokes.
“Staying silent when your fellow boys make jokes makes you part of the problem. Self-defense classes won’t fix a man’s wandering eye.”

Avril encouraged men to have honest conversations with the women in their lives to better understand their struggles and exhaustion rather than ignoring the issue.
“Talk to the women in your life and try to understand WHY we’re so exhausted instead of turning a blind eye.”

She also acknowledged that various movements and campaigns are already working to engage men as partners in combating gender-based violence and promoting equality.

Avril advises to care for loved ones following a public breakup in 2023.

In November 2023, the songstress Judith Nyambura, widely known as Avril, caused a stir when she shared photos on Instagram depicting her with a swollen and bruised face in one image and a bandaged face in another. However, she promptly removed the photos, though they had already circulated widely.

In her official Instagram post, Avril wrote, “My heart is so heavy that I had to share my story… I forgive you, J. Please find it in your heart to forgive him too. Everyone deserves forgiveness in this life.” She urged her followers to forgive her partner, Blessing.

Acknowledging the difficulties in their seven-year relationship and their journey as parents, Avril stated, “There have been conflicts that have escalated into fights.”

J Blessing, responding to Avril’s statement, stated that they had mutually agreed to distance themselves from each other to prevent further incidents. He also addressed the assault allegations, confirming that one of the circulating photos of Avril with a bruised face was from a previous altercation that occurred a year before Avril’s post.

In an exclusive interview with Nairobi News, Avril discussed the challenging period, expressing her ongoing discomfort in discussing it. She emphasized the importance of compassion and care in relationships, stating, “If you love someone, love them and take care of them, and if it doesn’t work out, just be compassionate.”

After going missing during the J Blessing saga, Avril returned to the internet with a bang

Renowned Kenyan singer Judith Nyambura, better known as Avril, has reactivated her Instagram account, approximately a week after deactivating it.

The ‘Nikimuna’ hitmaker abruptly closed her account, boasting nearly two million followers, last Wednesday following accusations of abuse against her co-parent, J Blessing.

On Tuesday, Avril’s account resurfaced, and she promptly shared an announcement regarding a classical music festival in Nairobi, featuring her alongside other veteran Kenyan artists, including Jua Cali, Mr. Lenny, Pilipili, and Jimwat.

“Old skul vibe on December 2nd #SaveTheDate,” Avril captioned the promotional poster.

Last Tuesday, Avril sparked concern among her fans after posting disturbing photographs of her face bearing apparent bruise marks, hinting at physical abuse by J Blessing.

Subsequently, the mother of one addressed the situation, clarifying her reasons for publicly disclosing her private struggles.

Avril later expressed forgiveness towards J Blessing for any past incidents and encouraged her fans to extend the same grace.

“I acknowledge that our seven-year relationship and our journey as parents to a beautiful little boy has been fraught with challenges, leading to conflicts that escalated into physical altercations,” she stated.

“We recognize the need for positive change and are committed to seeking support and learning more effective communication and conflict resolution strategies. Our shared goal is to foster a harmonious environment and provide mutual support, fostering understanding and personal growth,” Avril added.

In his defense, J Blessing acknowledged one of the images shared by Avril as an incident that occurred in the past.

“I deeply regret the harm I have caused Avril or anyone else. I acknowledge my wrongdoing, but I would like to clarify a few points,” J Blessing stated.

“Approximately a year ago, we engaged in a physical altercation, resulting in injuries for both of us. I immediately sought medical attention for Avril that day. I take full responsibility for that moment of weakness. One of the pictures she posted is from that incident,” he added.

The video producer further revealed that he and Avril had mutually agreed to end their relationship following the recent incident.

J Blessing reveals he has now split with Avril

Music video director and television producer J Blessing has confirmed his separation from singer Judith Nyambura Mwangi, known professionally as Avril. In a recent Instagram story, addressing the assault allegations against him, J Blessing stated that the couple has mutually agreed to “stay away from each other” to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

He further clarified that one of the circulating photos of Avril with a bruised face was indeed from a previous “altercation” that occurred a year ago. He acknowledged taking Avril to the hospital following the incident and expressed full responsibility for his actions.

However, J Blessing strongly denied the allegations of assaulting Avril “last night.” He apologized for any harm he may have caused Avril or anyone else, emphasizing that he is not an abuser, does not support violence, and has made mistakes in his life.

Earlier, Avril issued a statement forgiving her baby daddy and appealing to her fans to extend the same grace, stating that “everyone is deserving of forgiveness in this life.” She expressed her willingness to work on their seven-year relationship, acknowledging the need for change and seeking healthier communication and conflict resolution strategies.

“Our mutual goal is to create a more positive and supportive environment for each other, fostering understanding and growth,” Avril stated.

Avril publicly forgives J Blessing for bashing her, begs Kenyans to do the same

Avril Nyambura, a Kenyan musician, has reversed course and begged Kenyans to pardon her baby daddy. The single mother posted a picture of her damaged face on social media and tagged her baby daddy, saying, “Nikome umbwa hii.” She tagged him after captioning the photo.

Based on the responses, several people seemed to think she was chasing after clout and weren’t as encouraging as she had thought.

“Going through the comments, and I am in utter shock, this is why people never report this shit. Post this cause you all make people actually want to kill themselves after all they have been through. Have a laugh enjoy…bye “

She claims to have forgiven him now. She did, however, also say that the story is with the appropriate authorities, thus her comment was inconsistent.

J Blessing addresses allegations he beat up Avril

On November 14, 2023, singer Avril Nyambura posted pictures of her damaged face to Instagram Stories, which she quickly removed. Online communities expressed a wide range of opinions and worries in response to the unsettling photos, which rapidly went viral.

Avril bluntly attacked her baby daddy and well-known music director, J Blessing, in the since-deleted tweet, writing, “J Blessing unikome…” and using strong language after that. Avril took to social media to express her dismay at the public’s response to domestic violence. She criticized Kenyans, highlighting the seriousness of the problem and calling for increased awareness.

She expressed her disapproval of the internet mockery of such serious issues on Nairobi Gossip’s Instagram page, writing, “I’m shocked to read the comments. This is why people never report or post this shit because you guys make people want to commit suicide after everything they’ve been through. Enjoy your laugh and say “bye.”

He refused to comment when asked about the situation. He dismissed it with a joke, implying that he would use his social media accounts to address the matter if he choose to do so.
When contacted, Avril’s phone number was inaccessible.

Many Kenyans who were disturbed by the images rushed to social media to voice their outrage, denouncing domestic abuse and demanding responsibility:

J Blessing and Avril have been quietly dating for some time now, and they have never come clean about their relationship to the world.

I Thriveinchaos: There is no justification for this; he must face the law.

_ms_ngendo: This is extremely heartbreaking, the comments even worse.

Could this 2 year old handsome boy be Avril Nyambura’s son? (Photos)

Avril Nyambura has been hiding her son for close to 2 years now; and truth is, we really don’t know how he looks. However during Christmas, Avril went on to share a few photos flaunting a certain 2 year old; and fans are convinced that this could be her baby.

Well this is something we wouldn’t really confirm or dismiss; but chances are 50/50 judging from how comfortable the two look around each other. Although the photos were shared to promote home 254 kids the Chemistry between Avril and the young man speaks a lot.

I mean, it’s not everyday we get to see 2 year old’s behaving so confident, safe and loving around stranger; or whether aunties or nannies. But in this case, lets just say Avril has left us guessing at who the young man is.

2 year old model

It must also be a coincidence that the young model is a 2 year old just like her son; but since rumor has it that the boy’s father is J Blessing….well there is no much resemblance between J Blessing and the the baby boy hanging out with Avril.

However, this does not mean that we have already concluded that this is not or is Avril’s son; but Avril did indeed give the busy bodies some tough job on figuring out whether this is the son we have all been waiting to see.

Anyway below are just a few of the photos shared by Ms Avril on her page.

“I am not in the industry to be anyone’s role model” says Avril Nyambura

Avril Nyambura will not be blamed by fans for choosing to live her life the way she wishes! In fact she does not wish to be seen as a mentor; if that means whatever she does will be judged!

The mother of one opened up about this while on a recent interview where she mentioned that. According to Avril, she did not join the entertainment industry to be anyone’s role model; but to accomplish her dreams.

Avril Nyambura

“I joined this industry not looking to be a role model per say, if what I do inspires you in a certain way with how I take my life, take it and learn from it. But I’m not in the industry to be anyone’s role model.”

This comes weeks after many witnessed the likes of Mulamwah’s among other get bashed by keyboard warriors; for not living up to their expectations.

Comedian Mulamwah even opted to call it quits as he could not handle the criticism and name calling from fans.

Negativity

Having joined the entertainment industry at the age of 18 years, Avril says she has lived it all! She has not only been criticized but abused  to a point where all this became normal.

Ms Nyambura, alias Avril

During her interview the lady opened confirming that she was now used to being bullied but for the 12 years in the industry; Avril has learnt to be herself and not a virtual version created by people in their heads.

“I got into the limelight when I was 18 years old as a second year at Nairobi University when my career just started. So I literally grew up under public scrutiny. Through that journey I have been able to pick vital lessons here and there. Growing up under such scrutiny has taught me to just live my life, especially as a female artiste.”

She went on to add saying;

As a female artiste in the limelight, the scrutiny, the comments, the remarks, the decisions you are supposed to be making as a woman will break you. You will get to appoint where you will question many things,

Is Naiboi’s new jam ‘Makasiriko’ a diss track to Avril Nyambura? (Audio)

To be honest, I haven’t come across a song by Michael Clevar Odhiambo, alias Naiboi, that I didn’t like after listening to it for the very first time and by the look of things I’m not about to.

Also read: Naiboi is way ahead of his time

A few hours ago, the Pacho Records founder released a new track and it is getting a lot of love from his fans. Even his agree that he outdid himself this time around.

The song is titled Makasikiro and it is basically how he does not want getting mad at him or hating him for no reason at all. All that Naiboi is after in this new decade is happiness.

Avril Nyambura

As I was listening to this jam, I kind of felt like it is a diss track to Judith Nyambura, alias Avril, because as you all are aware the the two do not see eye because she declined a request to appear in his 2 in 1 video.

The Kitoko hit maker said that she had been hospitalized around the time when different celebrities were submitting their videos to Naiboi so she could not send hers but he didn’t want to hear any of that, so he called her out.

A few days ago, Naiboi renewed his attack on Avril saying he was willing to work with any other Kenyan female artist other than Avril. And then bam, he dropped a new song called Makasiriko.

I am starting to think that its just a publicity stunt but who cares? Naiboi has treated us to an catchy track and that is all that matters. I have been listening to it on replay since it came out a few hours ago and I still love it.

Naiboi
Naiboi

Other than his great vocals, you have to admit that Naiboi has a unique ability to play around with words. He makes it look so easy.

Naiboi’s decision to include the viral clip of Former President Daniel Moi saying, “Kama yuko mtu ametukana mimi namsamehe, na kama yuko mtu ambaye nimesema chochote ambayo imeumiza roho yake, unisamehe.” was genius

The beat on this song is also impeccable. It slaps so hard, especially if you have good earphones or headphones. You will have it on replay for a long time, trust me. Props to Ilogos Music.

Watch Makasiriko below and tell us what you think. Enjoy.

King Kaka’s new collabo with Xenia Manasseh titled ‘Dear Stranger’ is totally dope (Video)

Celebrated Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has released a new song with Xenia Manasseh and it’s totally worth your time.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The song dubbed Dear Stranger, which is off his mixtape titled The Servant & The King, is about people that he was really close with at one point in time but they had to part ways for one reason or the other. Hence, they became strangers, sort of.

Arrow Bwoy
Arrow Bwoy

In the song, the Run Ting hitmaker mentions the likes of; Femi One, Arrow Bwoy, Avril, Rich Mavoko, Timmy Tdat, Pascal Tokodi, Phy and goes on to reveal how they influenced his life and vice versa.

His message to these people – who he helped rise in the local music industry – is that he’ll always be there for them and will help them realize their dreams, even if they disagreed at some point.

I love this jam. Apart from the fact that it’s well-arranged, it made realized that King King has sacrificed so much for many artists, were it not for him you would have probably never heard about some of the aforementioned musicians.

I don’t know about you but this song too me back to the Kaka Sungura that I used to listen to 10 years (or so ago) and the truth is that I had missed this version of him.

Xenia Manasseh
Xenia Manasseh

Notably, Xenia Manasseh also came through on this jam. She spiced it up with her mellow voice and believe you me, even if you don’t like King Kaka, the former will make you love this song.

I also love the instrumentation on this song. The tempo just blends well with both King Kaka and Xenia’s voices and it will get you hooked from the moment you hit the play button.

The video is also dope. The really utilized the location i.e. Lord Egerton Castle. Notably, the scene transitioning was also on point. Props to the videographer – CJ.

Watch Dear Stranger below and tell us what you think. Enjoy!

Amina should get back to making music

Did you know that The Trend host Amina Abdi Rabar was once a musician? If you are not aware then you are too young (I’ve been waiting to drop this line on someone).

She released two songs circa 2013 and they both performed well. Actually, one of them is a collabo with the one and only Octopizzo.

The other song, which happens to be my most favorite, is a collaboration with rapper K-Letta dubbed Paint The Town Red.

Amina Abdi Rabar
Amina Abdi Rabar

Apart from the fact that she has a melodious voice – the kind that will make you hit the replay button a couple of times –  I think she really has it in her.

She can actually give the likes of Avril, Mayonde and Vivian a run for their money. I’m willing to bet about this.

The way I see it, she should get back to making music because the local industry needs her but that’s just me.

Come to think of it though, how will she juggle all her hustles and still get time to get into studio and record songs? It would be tough.

Or she could release a song once in a while. I don’t know how she will do it but it needs to happen. Amina, if you are reading this, do the needful.

Listen to Octopizzo’s collabo with Amina dubbed Swag below.

Timmy Tdat Vs Willy Paul Vs Khaligraph: Who is the best live performer?

When you attend a gig, you expect to be entertained and this largely depends on the performers and what they do on stage. Truth is, anyone can get on stage but very few people can own it. (I sound like a motivational speaker at this point).

I have attended a couple of gigs over the last few years and watched some on YouTube and in my honest opinion some of the best live Kenyan performers are; The Kansoul, Jua Cali, Juliani, Nameless, Sauti Sol, Avril, Timmy Tdat, Willy Paul and Khaligraph Jones.

Today, we’ll focus on the last three names because they are individuals who are current i.e. they don’t belong to any groups and they have been in the game for almost the same period of time and they are still relevant to date.

We would like to find out who among the three you consider the best live performer and why. What makes each of them stand out and why? We want to know how they manage to pull large crowds to their events.

Willy Paul

Willy Paul
Willy Paul

Apart from having mad energy while performing, the Tam Tam hitmaker is known to pull stunts on stage. He always does something unexpected perhaps this is why his fans can’t get enough of him.

Timmy Tdat

Timmy Tdat

The Kipopo hitmaker is not only energetic, he also knows how to interact with the crowd. To add to that, he’s likely to dance seductively with a girl on stage during a gig.

Khaligraph Jones

Khaligraph Jones
Khaligraph Jones

The O.G as he is popularly known is good at crowd control. He’s not jumpy like the other two but if you attend his gig, you’ll definitely get value for your money. He has a unique style of entertaining his fans and in my opinion, it works for him.

According to you, who among the three is the be best live performer? Tell us!

Most Kenyan musicians don’t know their worth and it’s sad

Despite being super-talented and all, you’ll be shocked to learn that most Kenyan musicians don’t really understand their worth. This is a sad fact of life!

So, here’s the scenario, you are are dead broke despite being an accomplished musician. You’ve dropped three new singles since the year began.

To add to that  you have thousands of followers on your own social media pages, meaning you can easily pull crowds to a gig.

Naiboi
Naiboi

Someone, say a fraudulent promoter, approaches and asks you to perform at an out of town gig for Ksh. 10,000 and you agree because you need to sort out some bills and what not.

Who’s the fool here? Is it the promoter or the musician. It’s definitely the latter and I’ll explain why.

You see, Kenyan musicians should be aware of their worth and stop undervaluing themselves. When they accept paltry amounts for out of town gigs, they are unknowingly setting a bad precedence.

Event organizers are always in constant communication. If word goes around that you charge a certain amount for a performance, your rate card is set.

Nyashinski

The next time an event organizer calls the musician up, they will probably offer them the same amount or much less.

At the end of the day, a musician will be bitter for getting bad rates yet they are being offered such meagre amounts because of the precedence that they set. It’s your fault bro!

Musicians should know that it’s okay to turn down amounts they are not comfortable with and that their personal needs or debts should not come before their crafts.

If a musician  needs a manager to help them evaluate how much they are worth, they should go ahead and get one. It’s totally okay!

This way, they’ll get paid what they are worth.  The musician, will also be able to do more things. Instead of performing at many small gigs and being underpaid, just have one or two and get your worth.

Some of the musicians who have been smiling all the way to the bank because they understand their worth are the likes of Naiboi, Khaligraph, Sauti Sol, Otile Brown, Nameless, Avril, Fena Gitu, King Kaka, Octopizzo, Nyashinski, just to name a few.

Avril

If you’ve been wondering how come they always have a new song every now and then it’s because they are getting paid what they are worth.

Avril gets cosy with Dan Aceda in their new collabo dubbed ‘Electricity’ (Video)

Award-winning Kenyan singer Dan Aceda has dropped the video for Electricity, one of the songs off his fourth studio album dubbed Accelerata, and we are in awe.

Aceda, who is known to many as The Crown Prince of Benga, featured songstress Judith Nyambura, alias Avril, in the song which has an Afro-fusion vibe.

Electricity is a love ballad that talks about how one feels when they are spending time with their partners or people that they love.

The song’s lyrics is such a no-brainer. You’ll master the whole song after listening to it two or three times.

The chorus goes like, “All this electricity Flowing through all over my body This feeling beiby  Ele-ele-electricity.

The beat, which was produced by Saint P, was also on point. If you are keen, you’ll appreciate how he fused various genres and the outcome.

Electricity was directed by Kevin Provoke and he didn’t disappoint either. As the video begins, you  can’t help but notice how Aceda was getting cosy with Avril on the sofa set.

Kenyan singer-songwriter, Avril Nyambura with her baby

Happy Birthday to J Blessing and baba M!

Singer Avril Nyambura finally reveals her real age!

Singer Avril Nyambura is not ashamed to talk about her age like most ladies. In fact she counts this as a blessing and while other women insist on keeping their real age on the low she recently disclosed it while on an interview on Radio Jambo.

Despite looking like a 20 something year old lady, Avril Nyambura will actually be turning 33 years soon. Avril confidently confirmed this saying that the she has learnt quite a number of things over the years and is not ashamed of the person she has become.

“I am turning 33 this year. Me I am proud of my age, I am very proud of my age because each and every year kuna kitu kimefanyika maishani mwangu and I am proud of the amount of time I have taken to be who I am and to continue doing what I do. Being a mum in my 30s has came at an opportune time. Maisha ni kama kitabu kila chapter inafaa kuwa na story yake. Nimeingia chapter fulani in my 30s which I find amazing. Motherhood is amazing.”

Motherhood

Having been blessed with a child at the age of 32 years; the singer says she is more than grateful to have a family of her own.

She however keeps both her son and baby daddy on the low and till date we know very little about her new life.

Avril opens about balancing work and being a mother: It’s teaching me a love that I never knew existed

Singer Avril was recently blessed by a son and she vowed she wouldn’t tell Kenyans who the father was. Many speculated that the father of the son was music producer Jblessing but both of them have totally refused to speak about it.

In a recent interview with Kiss 100, the singer shared how having a baby has changed her life. She’s now a mother and has to balance between work and the baby.

“Motherhood has it’s trials, especially for a new mum right at the beginning when it hasn’t quite hit you that this is your life now; but it’s the most rewarding chapter of my life that I have ever found myself in. It’s teaching me a  love that I never knew existed, patience that has brought me so much peace,” she said.

Tired

Avril also added that she’s lucky that she’s self employed and can steal a few days to be with her son but trips out of town usually leave her emotional.

“The fatigue at the beginning weighed me and I’ll admit got me a bit loopy, but once I got a hang of things I started being a very happy tired person,” she said.

Adding:

“Later I think the greatest challenge started being striking that balance as a working mother. I am fortunate to be self employed so I spend a lot time with my son, but there comes a time when I need to travel for a couple; that’s usually pretty hard for me especially emotionally. The first time was the worst.”

‘There is a whole science behind it’ Avril shares how she managed to lose the extra baby fat and snapped back

Singer Avril gave birth early this year to a healthy baby boy. It’s no yet clear who the father of the baby is but rumors have insisted it’s producer J Blessing.

The two have always dodged giving an official statement on the matter and have neither denied or accepted they brought the baby to this world.

Anyway, having given birth, the singer managed to snap back to her curvy body in just weeks and many are wondering how it all happened. In an interview with Switch TV, she explained that breastfeeding has helped her cut the weight.

“You know what happened, I gave birth to a baby boy who has been breastfeeding. I chose to exclusively breastfeed my baby up to now he is 8 months still breastfeeding. I started weaning him at 6 months he loves his mashed bananas and bla bla bla but he still breastfeeds,” she said.

Science

The singer went on to add that many people underestimate the power of breastfeeding but it’s important in losing weight. There’s a lot of science in play that many don’t understand which makes it all possible.

“There is a whole science behind it, there is a chemical in the brain called oxytocin. So when it’s generated from the brain to the abdomen muscles it tells the body you need to contract… So when you are breastfeeding that chemical goes down and causes contractions and the contraction leave you snatched.” she added.

Singer Avril finally reveals why you don’t and might never know the father of her baby

Singer Avril has come out to share the reason why she’s very secretive on who the father of her baby is.

According to the singer who has been rumoured to be in a relationship with producer Jblessing, she’s not willing to share the man since her past experience after sharing who she’s dating haven’t been pleasing.

“The person, who is in the picture right now, shall remain unnamed because I learnt from my past… This thing of anikaing people; your spouse on the press does not work out well. That is one of the reasons why I have chosen to keep my baby out of the limelight. I don’t want him to live to that image of always being out there, and that is why his name is just ‘M’. No one would ever know his name until he gets to school.” Said Avril in an interview with K24.

Vague

The singer, after being asked whether she’s really in a relationship with the father of the son or just together because of the baby, didn’t give much information on whether the two are in love.

At the end of the day, they say raising a boy is way harder than raising a girl. Let us just say I am raising a beautiful boy with an amazing man, who has an amazing heart and an amazing work ethic, and has an amazing love for his son and myself. That’s it. I have chosen to live my life as private as possible, and I am happy,” replied Avril.
