For years, Cecilia Wairimu, known by her stage name Amani, captivated many with her music. She was known for songs such as Tonight, and Bad Boy among others.
But all that changed when she decided to give her life to Christ a few years ago, a decision that left her fans shocked. Many wondered what might have led her into what many do not see as a lucrative industry.
In an interview with the KTN News segment History Makers, she said nothing traumatic happened to make her get saved.
“People think something traumatic must happen for one to get saved. I did not go through any traumatic experiences such as being sick and admitted to hospital. I was disconnected from God and I wanted a deeper connection with him. I felt like I had lost it over time because I started as a gospel artist before I moved to secular music.”
Amani says her parents were not pleased with her decision to give her life to Christ.
“My parents were not pleased with my decision at first. They thought I was throwing away my career. But I told them that this was something I had to do. I told them that I was not going to stop singing, but I was going to sing gospel music.”
Amani’s decision to give her life to Christ has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised her for her decision, while others have criticized her for abandoning her secular career.
Amani says she is not bothered by the criticism. She says she is happy with her decision and she is not going to let anyone tell her what to do with her life.
“I am not bothered by the criticism. I am happy with my decision and I am not going to let anyone tell me what to do with my life. I am doing what I feel is right and I am not going to apologize for it.”
Amani says she is excited about her new journey as a gospel artist. She says she is looking forward to sharing her faith with others through her music.
“I am excited about my new journey as a gospel artist. I am looking forward to sharing my faith with others through my music. I believe that music is a powerful tool that can be used to spread the message of God.”
