Media personality Adelle Onyango has recently opened up about her struggle with suicidal thoughts and the severe mental and physical distress she experienced.
In her candid account, Adelle revealed how her demanding work schedule contributed to a profound mental exhaustion and a range of symptoms that ultimately led her to seek professional help.
She reflected on how overworking had severely impacted her well-being, noting, “Towards the end of last year, I discovered just how intertwined mental health is with physical health.”
Despite achieving significant career milestones, Adelle found herself grappling with extreme fatigue. She described hitting a breaking point after returning from a work trip to New York.
“As soon as I got back, my body and mind just gave out,” she admitted.
The symptoms she faced were overwhelming: suicidal thoughts, severe insomnia, loss of appetite, poor gut health, and a general lack of motivation.
“It was painful and bewildering because I had never experienced anything like this before,” she explained.
A concerned friend eventually encouraged her to see a doctor, which led her to a wellness-focused clinic. The consultation, which felt more like a therapy session, resulted in a diagnosis of low-functioning depression, attributed to a combination of sleep deprivation and poor gut health.
Adelle began a treatment plan aimed at improving her sleep and gut health. Within three weeks of starting the prescribed medication, she began to feel a positive change.
“I also received valuable advice on how to support both my mental and physical health,” she added.
Adelle Onyango has come forth to reveal the main reason fans on her social media have not been able to see her in a bikini. Through her social media pages, the lady went on to blame this on the insecurities that have for a long time given her headache.
According to Adelle, she has hated her body for years and unlike most women she could not embrace her scars; and the fact that her body also reminded her of the time she was raped, Adelle just didn’t feel beautiful.
As seen on her post, the lady also blames her eczema that left her skin looking dry; but after evaluating what she has been through and how far she has come, then it’s only fair to treat her body right.
I am so PROUD of the INTENTIONAL work I’ve done to get to a point of loving my body. For many years I hated it. I don’t know I think at the time parts of it reminded me of getting raped…the scars. Then came eczema with it’s own scars as if to mock me. Getting into a swimsuit was just…a no-no! Which sucked because I’ve been a swimmer all my life and I loved it!
Love your body
Now that she has learnt the value of her body and why she should have taken care of it by falling in love with herself; Adelle went on to urge fans to respect and honour themselves.
So I hid it – tights, long sleeves, double sleeves, don’t swim, the works! I hardly looked at it. Didn’t give it the healthy things it needed. For years….yikes! But right now ???? ???????????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????????? ????????????????. It’s carried me through battlefields and continues to do so to date. Here’s to intentional healing. It’s hard. It takes time. I’m not all the way there. But it really is the gateway to freedom! #IntentionalHealing #SexualTrauma #LovingYourBody #Therapy #Healing
You may not know this but controversial blogger Arthur Mandela, better known as Xtian Dela, no longer works at Kiss FM or any of the Radio Africa Group affiliates.
Dela, who was at one time a presenter at NRG Radio, joined Kiss FM sometime in June 2019 alongside Kamene Goro and Andrew Kibe.
His role was to produce the station’s breakfast show whose ratings had really taken a beating after Shaffie Weru and Adelle Onyango left.
Understandably, it’s Kamene and Kibe who vouched for him to produce the show because they had worked with him at NRG Radio where he would occasionally join them to discuss various topics on their breakfast show.
Cluelessness
Although Xtian had a short stint on radio, he had never really worked as a producer and as you may know, this is a different ball game because you have to conceptualize a 4-hour show from Monday to Friday.
Kiss FM is not just any station. It is one of the leading urban stations in Kenya with a good listenership and that means there is no time for trial and error and learning on the job, you have to hit the ground running.
So here comes Xtian who has no background whatsoever in producing a radio show and he is given this big role and he does not know how to go about it. What happens next? Your guess is as good as mine.
The Group Programs Controller at Radio Africa is an Australian national by the name Pete Sinclair and people who know him claim that he does not tolerate nonsense and mediocrity.
Sooner or later, he began to notice that Xtian Dela didn’t have a clue on how to conceptualize topics for Kamene and Kibe and the ratings were really declining so he took up the job of producing the breakfast show himself.
Adios, bro
Although Xtian kept working at the station, even without having a specific role, they had to let go of him earlier this year because they saw no point of paying him a salary of about Ksh. 250,000 for doing nothing.
Milele FM’s presenter Jalang’o found himself at an awkward position after being blasted off on social media by former Kiss 100’s Adelle Onyango!
This was after Jalang’o shared a post in good intentions of promoting Adelle’s new TV show which he says she had invited him to feature. Through his Instagram page the fella wrote;
Few moons ago with le siz @adelleonyango… she will be hosting me soon on her new project #perspective
Well, being a recognized media personality it seemed obvious for the lass to have him over at her show.
Adelle distances herself from Jalang’o
However things unfortunately went south after Adelle decided to leave a comment on the post. Surprisingly the former radio presenter went on to correct Jalang’o by giving him the actual name of her show; then told him off for lying about being invited when she apparently had not.
What however took many by surprise is that Adelle claims that Jalang’o has a toxic review on femicide. She went on to write saying;
1st. It’s Pursepective 2ndly. I haven’t invited you so please don’t allude to that. I still believe you have a very TOXIC review on FEMICIDE that I absolutely will not amplify on my platform!
Well, our understanding of Femicide is Violence against women. This comprises of a wide range of acts – from verbal harrasment and other forms of emotional abuse, to daily physical or sexual abuse. At the far end of the spectrum is femicide: the murder of a woman
Kiss 100 FM Breakfast Show presenter Adelle Onyango has resigned. It has been seven years now since the popular presenter joined the Radio Africa Group owned radio station and fell under the then Breakfast Show presenter Caroline Mutoko’s apprenticeship.
“After 7 years on Kiss, I need a new challenge,” she said on social media Saturday after her last show on Friday.
“It’s been a decision that I did not come to lightly. Change is the only constant thing in life, and it is through endings that we begin anew.”
Next stop
It’s not yet clear where Onyango is headed yet but she’s expected to drop a few hints in her podcast “Legally Clueless” which airs later today, the episode being the first since stepping away.
Onyango’s impressive run comes to an end just days after Capital FM’s Cess Mutungi’s 10-year stretch kaput following Joey Muthengi’s comeback on the radio station.
Radio presenter Adelle Onyango was recently on Instagram to mark one year as a wife after exchanging vows with Falgun Bhojak last year at an exclusive wedding in Redhill heights, Limuru.
Onyango shared the photos celebrating her marriage which saw her walk down the aisle in a stunning white dress that wowed Kenyans.
Best friends
Bhojak, is a Safari Rally race coach of Tri Fit. The two had been dating for three years before it happened.
“Happy Anniversary to us!! Here’s to friendship on fire forever! ” she posted on social media.
Radio host Adelle Onyango rarely speaks of her marriage. The Kiss FM presenter is married to Falgun Bhojak who is Asian with Kenyan decent.
Adelle recently shared some of her deep thoughts with the public saying that she regrets wasting time with in her previous relationships. Adelle, who has been married for an year now, shared that it’s good to find yourself first before settling down.
Find yourself first
“Wow! I wish I knew that I needed to figure out who I was first. I feel like I wasted so much time on the relationships I had then, and this really, is not a dig to my exes, it is just what it is. I wasted a lot of time, but then again, experience is the best teacher. Know thyself, that’s the key to everything,” she said.
Adding:
“Someone outside my race?” Oh my goodness! Who have you been talking to? And how do you get such information? I do not see it as being with, “Someone outside my race,” because I think we really try and define things, yet we are so much alike. But it’s great. I’m with someone who has an amazing soul; a really focused, generous, mature soul and that’s what I’d want in anyone, race notwithstanding.
Kenyans have long called for lifestyle audit of women who live big yet they can’t justify the accumulation of wealth. Adelle Onyango has given her two cents about the issue.
Adelle implores women to be proud of their sponsors. Speaking in an interview with a local TV station, the Kiss FM presenter says women get Range Rovers out of the blue then fool people they are working hard.
Stereotype
She calls on women to be come clean and own up their struggles. Adelle says all women are now being viewed as gold-diggers because some of them keep lying they are working hard yet everybody know they are being sponsored.
“These women! They are giving all Kenyan women such a bad name. But here’s the thing, if you have a sponsor, you should own it. Be proud of it. Don’t get a Range Rover out of the blue, and then lie to us that it’s from your farm. We can equally find those farming images you downloaded off of Google,” said Adelle Onyango.
As women across the globe celebrate Women’s Day, Radio presenter Adelle Onyango is glad she was named among the 100 influential women in Africa by OkayAfrica.
The fete comes less than six months after she was also named alongside Capital FM’s Anita Nderu among the most influential in Africa by BBC. Adelle recently opened up saying that it’s a thing she aimed for and worked hard towards.
“Well, a year ago I told my team that one goal was to be recognised as one of the top media personalities in Africa, and we did!” she said.
“So it’s putting my mind to something and ending up achieving it! But it’s a lot of work! The constant work to see your dream projects take off. Sometimes sleep becomes a luxury, which is unhealthy, but what do you do? Nothing worth having or worth achieving comes easy! There are always challenges that aren’t there to make you give up but just sharpen your craft.”
She hopes that her recognition will help her change the world and empower women.
“Just as with the BBC100 women’s recognition, I want to have conversations on giving youth opportunities, cyberbullying and rape, globally. OkayAfrica happens annually, where they list down people to recognise the efforts of women who are inspiring change in their fields. Last year, the likes of Yvonne Orji from the hit TV show Insecure was on the list! It’s a huge accolade!” Adelle said.
Adelle Onyango turned 29 on Monday and Shaffie Weru made sure she enjoyed her birthday like never before. The two Kiss FM presenters have been hosting a show together ever since Kalekye Mumo left the station.
Kaleyke and Shaffie had a chemistry on air for the years they hosted a show together. Kalekye left and Adelle Onyango easily filled her shoes.
This explains why Shaffie had to dig deep into his pocket to spoil Adelle on her 29th birthday. The self-styled raverend parted with a whopping Kes 140,000 to buy Adelle birthday gifts.
Designer shoes
Shaffie parted with 140k to buy Adelle Onyango two designer shoes. The two pairs of designer shoes Shaffie gifted Adelle are Dolce and Gabbana and Balenciaga Race Runners.
“@adelleonyango I wish you love, hope and everlasting joy and happiness. Thank you for being my best friend en Radio Bae! Happy Birthday Adelaide! ????? #theraverendslife #teamshaffie #mrhennessy,” wrote Shaffie Weru.
Adelle Onyango flew to Manchester, England to attend Children’s Global Media Summit. The Kiss FM presenter was tasked with welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the summit.
Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton arrived at the week-long summit on Wednesday December 6th. Adelle welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they entered the Manchester Central Convention Complex.
We talked about cyber-bullying
Adelle talked about several issued issues with Kate Middleton. She raised the issue of cyber-bullying with the Duchess of Cambridge.
“So this happened today, I met and had a conversation with the Duchess – Kate Middleton! We spoke about Cyber-bullying, cultural differences between Kenya and the UK, content creation for digital platforms and how young Africans are reclaiming & redefining the African narrative!” Adelle Onyango said.
Adelle Onyango has been tasked with welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The royals will preside over a summit in Manchester, England.
Children’s Global Media Summit will be held in UK from 4th to 7th December 2017. The summit an international event bringing together the most influential people from across the media and digital sectors.
The Summit brings together creatives, technology innovators, policymakers, executives and thought leaders from around the globe to inform and redesign the future of media for Generation U and explore the impact that digital technology will have in children’s futures.
Adelle Onyango to receive UK royals
The Duke of Cambridge will deliver a keynote speech on children’s mental health on Wednesday 6 December. Prince William will be accompanied by his wife Kate Middleton.
Adelle Onyango has been given the go-ahead to receive Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Kiss FM presenter expressed the joy of the task ahead when she broke the good news on social media.
“The smile you get when you find out you’re one of the delegates who will be receiving Prince William and Kate Middleton – Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – at the Children’s Global Media Summit this week!
#CGMS2017 #AfricanGirlMagic #TeamADELLE #TwoDaysToGo,” Adelle Onyango captioned a photo she shared on IG.
Cyprian Nyakundi sparked uproar when he made an outrageous rape comment about Adelle Onyango. Janet Mbugua has since responded to the controversial blogger.
Janet Mbugua says Nyakundi does not understand what masculinity truly means. The former Citizen TV anchor explained women were not against men by speaking against sexual harassment.
“If a woman speaking out against rape turns you into a chest-thumping individual that calls us ‘toxic feminists’, you haven’t understood what masculinity truly means. If you think we speak out against these issues because we are against men, you don’t get it.
“You see, a lot of us are surrounded by good…no, GREAT men. They have fathered us, married us, befriended us, dated us, been born of us, hired us, lead us, followed us, respected us, loved us. So no, we don’t hate men. We hate that every second of everyday there is a woman somewhere in this world who is being harassed, assaulted, raped and in most cases, the perpetrator is a man. It’s a fact, not a blow at men and masculinity. We have to learn the difference. This woman is raped into silence, trauma and defeat. Some of these women are too affected to speak and so we will speak for them. You don’t have to like it,” wrote Janet Mbugua in part.
Janet further warns Nyakundu against laughing at rape. She cautions that rape culture exists because people demonize rape victims.
“As for you…yes, you…don’t laugh at rape. If I were you, instead of meming and demeaning, I would read, I’d get educated and understand the issues, I would look at the women and girls in my life that I love most and realize that they too could be victims. Rape culture exists because we don’t believe it does.”
Cyprian Nyakundi sparked public uproar when he made distasteful statement on Adelle Onyango. The Twitter bigwig condemned the Kiss FM presenter for giving talk about rape.
“Adelle Onyango gave a powerful speech against the rape culture. Pardon me for my ignorance, but who in their right mind would want to rape, let alone have consensual sex with her? Asking for a friend.” Nyakundi wrote on his Facebook page.
The blogger’s insensitive post drew lots of criticisms from Kenyans on social media. Adelle Onyango also replied to Nyakundi in a long post.
“So Cyprian no, I will not pardon your ignorance, I will not forgive that YOU just like for the man who raped me this post is not about sex but is all about objectification, power and control. I will not forgive you for what your post did to me mentally and emotionally, for the hurt it caused my family; my husband, my sisters and my close friends all in the name of “pardon me for my ignorance”. I will not let you dim my light or my message.
“You have turned a powerful anti-rape message into one about YOUR sexual preferences. This is not about who will have sex with you or who you want to have sex with Cyprian, this is about the fact that in 2008 the Crime Scene Investigation Nairobi reported that there were 40,500 rape cases in Kenya and estimated that the actual figure was 3 times higher than this and that in 2010 it was reported 32% of girls experience in Kenya sexual violence before becoming adults- that is 3 in 10 women in Kenya.
“You should not be forgiven for the example that you are setting for the next generation of men. I’m angry that every girl I know has a creepy sex story. So Cyprian please allow your mind to expand its definition of what a woman is. Being a woman is not about our bodies or being over dramatic or being soft or having emotions and changing our minds. We are not here for your vilification. And I acknowledge that men are raped too, and I am sorry, but men who have lived their whole lives as men haven’t been told and taught that they deserve to be raped, that their voices carry no weight and that their anger is invalid. So, Cyprian, I understand why you think that we deserve to be raped and sexually objectified, abused, that our voices carry no weight and that my anger and my causes are infinitely invalid. I hope this allows you to experience some sort of vulnerability, either mine or your own. For the men that support our causes and realize the bane of the womb, we say thank you, and continue to support us, love us and cherish us, as women for being women, appreciate our intellect, hear our voices and acknowledge our accomplishments for we will continue to spread the message, and keep hope alive that one day we will live in a rape-free society.
I dedicate this to anyone who has ever been hurt in the name of masculinity,” Wrote Adelle in part.
Nyakundi remains unshaken
Nyakundi however has no apology to make over his controversial Facebook post. The Twitter bigwig hit back at his critics in an article written on his blog titled ‘Define Stupidity: Kenyan Feminists Reporting Nyakundi To Twitter, For A Post On Facebook’.
“For instance, Nyakundi is a victim of feminist-rage, yet the truth is that today, no woman has gotten her corporate job in Nairobi through merit. It is common knowledge that many have had to part with sexual enticements, in-order to achieve the “success” they brag about today. Because that form of sexual-abuse is “acceptable” , hypocritical feminists will choose to give it a wide-berth, and focus on the aggregated presumption that all “Men Are Trash” .
“You see, for as long as you’re not parting with financial recompense, you are trash to women. Well the reality is that yes, we men have standards too! We can tell ugly women, gold-diggers, high body-count, sluts, but most of all, we can see through the veil of feminism abused by Nairobi women, as a tool for social and financial progression. It’s these women who have nothing to offer society, that have fallen back to feminine-activism as a default for seeking relevance and attention,” wrote Nyakundi in part.
Adelle Onyango might need to take a break from talking too much as revealed through her gram. Well, this is after she visited a doctor who advised her to give her vocal chords sometime to rest since they have been hurting.
The radio presenter made the announcement before confessing that she had been self medicating what she thought was a cold only to realize that it was worse than she thought.
For this reason, the radio presenter might need to take sometime off her job as it requires her to do a lot of talking (I mean have you heard Adelle talk) leaving team Adelle in the hands of Shaffie Weru.
Adelle also went on to add that her husband is now strict as he wants her to get better as soon as possible
Kiss FM presenter Adello Onyango has got new tattoo that are a representation of hope and love to those who are struggling with depression, suicide, addiction, and self-injury.
Adelle’s new tattoos are as a result of her joining an initiative by Project Semicolon; an American mental health nonprofit organisation that primarily functions as an anti-suicide initiative.
Project Semicolon has been encouraging those struggling with depression, suicide, addiction, and self-injury to get a semicolon tattoo as a reminder of struggle, victory and survival.
The Kiss FM presenter is a victim of sexual assault; Adelle shared her rape story for the first time in 2012 when she explained how a neat looking man raped her in 2008.
Adelle now has the semicolon tattoo on the back of her palm near the thumb. She showed off the tattoo on social media together with her friend as she explained the meaning.
“Project Semicolon exists to encourage love and inspire”
After over 10years of friendship, after all the challenges we have fought and won, and those we are still fighting, @misslwile and I got this lil reminder inked on us last night!
Kiss FM’s radio Adelle Onyango seems to be enjoying her marriage as she tied the knot with the love of her life, Falgun Bhojakis about a month ago in a private ceremony that only saw friends and family attend.
Being one month since she officially became somebody else’s wife the lady recently sparked pregnancy rumors after a new photo showing what looks like a baby bump emerged on social media.
However, she brushed off the rumors in a sarcastic caption that was meant to debunk the fake news making rounds on social media. She wrote saying;
“When you look very pregnant and your child is pushing out their face to pose for the pic…..but you still have to celebrate the bomb guests you hosted this morning! S/O @brightgameli and @philipogola for helping us debunk fake news! PS: I’m not preggers….pls read! Unless you’re sarcastic then I can dig it!”
Renown radio presenter Adelle Onyango a few weeks ago officially became Mrs Falgun Bhojak after exchanging vows with the love of her life at a private wedding ceremony.
However when many thought they would spend like 2 to 3 weeks enjoying their honeymoon at a fancy beach, the newly weds cut short their honeymoon so they could vote.
“My honeymoon was really really nice but it was short because we had to come back and vote,”
From what we know is that the couple was away for about 10 days – then they had to return back to Nairobi as Adelle Onyango could not miss voting. Speaking to Ebru TV’s show (let’s talk) Adelle revealed why it was important for her to vote…before spilling some details about her wedding. She said;
“The destination is ours because if you saw even my photos it was never like I am here. it’s ours cos we have so many good memories and so many great life decisions that we made at that location. that is going to be a place that we will keep going back to reset and be like did we achieve ABC…and we have so many special places in our relationship.”
Radio presenter Adelle Onyango is now a married woman as she finally exchanged her vows with the love of her life, Falgun Bhojak, in a private wedding ceremony that went down this past Friday at at Redhill heights, Limuru.
From the photos shared by both friends and family we can all agree that Adelle looked like a princess in her white gown which was locally customized by a Kenyan designer. From her make up, hair and smile there is no doubt that the lady was excited to officialize her relationship the right way.
However, there are those who will always be quick to throw shade at other people and this is what happened to Adelle. Some of her followers or rather social media users left some harsh comments urging Adelle to quit smiling since her teeth were crooked (so mean…)
However, being the strong woman she has always been…the Kiss 100 radio presenter did not care what it is they thought of her as she clapped back to say;
“These crooked teeth put together a killer smile smile”
There is no better response that Adelle could have given her idle followers!
We’ve only seen a couple of photos from Adelle Onyango’s wedding that went down this past Friday. Apparently the wedding only attracted close friends and family who came together to witness their children exchange their lifetime vows!
I must admit that this was one of the best kept secrets of 2017…however let us just say that most celebrities now prefer keeping their personal lives on the low unlike before.
Anyway, Adelle’s wedding dress has left many ladies asking where she purchased it and whether she had imported it. However, you will be surprised to learn that the dress was made by a local designer (Ogake) who managed to give the Kiss 100 radio presenter a princess-like look on her special day.
Below are a few photos of the gorgeous dress;
Adelle Onyango looking like a princess: photos courtesy of Ogake.
Adelle Onyango is the latest celebrity to confirm that she is finally off the market now that she is planning to get married to her secret boyfriend.
She made the announcement during an interview with the Star, where she said:
“Love should be celebrated just as loudly as we “celebrate” hate. Also we’ve enjoyed it with our family and friends for a long while so it’s OK for everyone else to know now. It wasn’t a secret, I never hid my ring. I just didn’t make it seem like all there was to me – and I genuinely wanted to enjoy it in the confines of my family.”
This comes after she posted a photo of her and her man which she captioned using lyrics from popular song wild thoughts saying;
Diamonds ain’t nothin when I’m rockin with you
However looking at the photo seems that she broke up with her Caucasian and will be getting married to an African man (judging from the black and white photo).
