Suspect in the Kware murder case has reportedly escaped from custody

The prime suspect in the Kware murder case, Collins Jumaisi, has escaped from the Gigiri Police Station. Jumaisi was one of 13 detainees who managed to flee, with the other 12 being Eritrean nationals.

Jumaisi had previously claimed that he was tortured into confessing to the murders during a hearing at the Makadara Law Courts last month. Represented by his lawyer, John Ndegwa, Jumaisi denied the allegations against him, asserting that he was wrongly accused by detectives and had been subjected to inhumane treatment upon his arrest, requiring urgent medical attention.

Despite these claims, Makadara magistrate Irene Gicobi granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) permission to detain Jumaisi for 30 days for further investigation into the killings.

Police had earlier stated that Jumaisi had confessed to the murders. He was reportedly tracked to a house in Kayole, where authorities believe he was attempting to lure another victim. A raid on his residence led to the discovery of ten mobile phones, seven identity cards, ten SIM cards, a panga, gloves, sacks similar to those found with bodies at a dumpsite, and ropes.

An officer involved in the investigation described Jumaisi as a key suspect in the Kware area murders. Additionally, detectives had followed a money trail linked to the latest victims of the case.
