SDA Church Reverses Suspension of Pastor Mokoro Following Public Outcry
The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has rescinded the suspension of four religious leaders who were previously barred from ministering in their pulpits.
In a letter dated July 10, 2024, signed by Pastor Eliab Ombuoro, the Executive Secretary of KCF, the church officially retracted the earlier directive and instructed all recipients to disregard it.
The decision to withdraw the suspensions came amidst widespread public backlash, particularly on social media.
“We wish to state that our letter dated 4th July 2024 regarding the suspension (ACTION 24EXCOM-055) is hereby withdrawn until further notice. We kindly request all recipients of the letter to disregard its contents,” the letter reads.
The five individuals affected by the initial suspension included Pastor Elizabeth Mokoro, Kenneth Maina, Evangelist Shaban Ndege, Evangelist Millicent Odhiambo, and Evangelist Lantena.

The original notice, issued on July 4 by the SDA Kenya Coast Field, had instructed members not to allow these individuals to minister in their congregations.
Pastor Ombuoro had emphasized in the previous communication that the suspensions were aligned with a decision from the East Kenya Union Conference (EKUC), without specifying the reasons behind the disciplinary action.
However, according to recent reports from the Star newspaper, the church has since retracted the suspension letter.
Efforts to reach Pastor Ombuoro for further clarification were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls for comment.
