Salasya Shares His Unconventional Views on Wealth

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has shared his unique perspective on money, likening it to flowers in his life. The first-term legislator, while discussing his upcoming football tournament, acknowledged the challenges involved in organizing such an event and sought divine assistance to ensure its success.

Salasya highlighted the tradition among Kenyan politicians to host football tournaments during school holidays as a way to engage the youth, discourage delinquent behavior, and foster voter support. However, he admitted that pulling off a successful tournament requires significant financial resources.

“Hosting a successful tournament is no easy task. God, I pray for Your help. The budget is high, but who is God? He will make it happen. To me, money is like flowers,” Salasya wrote on Instagram. The PK Salasya Classic Cup kicked off on December 1 and will conclude on January 1.

Reflecting on his journey, Salasya, 35, recounted his humble beginnings and financial struggles before his 2022 electoral win. He recalled times when raising bus fare to travel from his village to Nairobi was a challenge, often bargaining to lower the cost from Sh. 800 to Sh. 650 to save money for essentials.

“I never imagined that one day I’d board an airplane as casually as a public service vehicle,” he said, marveling at how far he has come from his days of traveling on buses like Basi la Matunda or Eldoret Express. Salasya’s reflections serve as a testament to his perseverance and faith in overcoming adversity.
