Ruto Says He Asked for Forgiveness from Uhuru Last Year

President William Ruto said on Wednesday that he asked for forgiveness from his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, during last year’s National Prayer Breakfast.

Ruto made the remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast meeting held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Forgiveness: The Key to Reconciliation.”

“I remember during the 2022 prayer breakfast I was asking for forgiveness from my friend the former President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Ruto said. “It is interesting that in our first prayer meeting, we are discussing forgiveness.”

Ruto did not elaborate on what he asked for forgiveness for, but he said that he believes forgiveness is essential for healing and reconciliation.

“Forgiveness is a powerful tool that can heal our hearts and our nation,” Ruto said. “It is a key to reconciliation and unity.”

The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event that brings together Kenyan leaders from all walks of life to pray for the nation. The event is organized by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB).

In his remarks at the breakfast, KCCB chairman, Archbishop John Njue, urged Kenyans to forgive each other and to work together to build a better nation.

“We need to forgive each other,” Njue said. “We need to let go of bitterness and resentment. We need to come together and work for the common good.”
