Robert Alai: “They Need to Suspend the Protests”

Robert Alai is an activist-turned-MCA who built a name for himself opposing the government every step of the way. However, in a surprising twist, during the most recent protests, he appears to have taken the stance that we need to stop the protests to give the government a chance to do their work. He said:

I think they need to suspend the protests. I think that it’s not healthy for the country. In fact it’s working against their mission because they want to see more people employed. I work in the assembly and we can’t work. It was 60% looted and burnt. Most of the time we have the Covid-era assembly on Zoom.

He says that we should give them a timeline. after which we should take to the streets and protest again

The reality is this: you have given him conditions. Why don’t you give him timelines. Why don’t you tell him that we’re giving you 3 months to implement this. Or we come back and protest. Because you started protests in June. You don’t give him any moment to work. This person has been in the presidency for less than two years. There is no school for being a president.”
