Reasons Behind the 9-Month Delay in Murdered Blogger Snipper’s Burial

Irene Kawira, the widow of the late Meru blogger Snipper, has opened up about her struggles since her husband’s death. In an interview with Kingori from Tuko, she revealed that her life has changed dramatically since the tragic event.

Kawira recounted the agonizing wait of 16 days before the discovery of her husband’s body. “We had to wait for news that a body had been found. It was unclaimed, and the police suggested we check it out. I couldn’t believe it until we confirmed it was him,” she said.

Reflecting on the shock of learning about her husband’s murder, Kawira admitted, “I was devastated and have yet to return to my normal self. I never imagined something like this could happen.”

She explained the delay in his burial, saying, “Justice is being delayed. Despite providing statements and evidence, nothing has been done, and the suspects have been released. Everything seems to have been overlooked. How can I bury my husband when there is no resolution?”

Kawira also mentioned concerns for her safety as a witness and the lack of progress in the case. “The body remains in the morgue as we have no burial plans yet. Once justice is served, we can proceed,” she added.

She further noted, “The body is considered part of the community, but without justice, we cannot reach an agreement on the burial.”

Snipper was found dead on December 16, 2023, following his disappearance on December 4, 2023. The death was confirmed by Abogeta West Member of County Assembly, Denis Kiogora.
