Raila Odinga Links Current Government To His Criticism Of KCPE Results
Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has expressed his disapproval of the recently released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
Speaking during an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party recruitment drive on Monday, November 27, 2023, Odinga decried the awarding of identical marks to different candidates in a single subject. He labeled the situation as shameful and attributed it to the alleged mismanagement of the examinations.
“It is disgraceful that children within the same class are receiving identical grades. This government is inept in every aspect of its operations. Why is this the case? God’s curse has befallen them for stealing my victory in the 2022 elections. It will not leave their throats until they are brought down,” Odinga asserted.
His remarks align with the grievances raised by parents and schools regarding the KCPE results announced last week.
In response to these concerns, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) acknowledged that errors had occurred in the results received via SMS code. KNEC CEO David Njengere explained that configuration issues were the root cause of the discrepancies.
“Only the SMS results were impacted by configuration issues. The results on the KNEC portal are accurate. KNEC informed the SMS service provider, and the error in the text messages was promptly resolved,” Njengere stated.
He acknowledged the existence of genuine cases and pledged to address them promptly. Njengere advised learners to obtain provisional results from their respective schools for more accurate information.
The controversy surrounding the KCPE results has sparked a heated debate about the credibility of the examination process. While KNEC has taken steps to rectify the errors, questions remain about the overall integrity of the examinations.
