Raila Odinga Denies Claims That His Bodyguard Has Been Released

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has denied claims that his bodyguard Maurice Ogeta has been released.

Ogeta was allegedly abducted by unknown assailants on Wednesday morning. According to ODM’s director of communications Philip Etale, Ogeta was accosted by unknown assailants suspected to be police officers on his way to work from home who flagged him down and then bundled him in his car’s boot.

Etale claims that after a few minutes drive, the car stalled and the assailants had to force Ogeta out of the boot to help them restart it. He was then taken to an unknown destination.

Odinga said that he has not been able to reach Ogeta since his alleged abduction and that he is concerned about his safety. He called on the government to release Ogeta immediately.

The Azimio coalition has also demanded Ogeta’s release, terming his abduction as unlawful and malicious.

The arrests of Ogeta and other Azimio affiliates come as the country is facing a wave of anti-government protests. The protests were called in response to the recent increase in fuel prices.

The government has condemned the violence and has called on the opposition to hold peaceful demonstrations.

Odinga has said that he supports the right to peaceful protest and that he will not be intimidated by the government’s actions.
