Raila Celebrates His Brother Oburu As He Turns 80

Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga showered praise on his elder brother Oburu Odinga as he marked his 80th birthday in style on Sunday, October 15.

The former prime minister and political detainee took to social media to thank his brother, born in 1943, for always being there for him, especially during the toughest days of his life.

“Oburu, my beloved brother, I wish you a very happy 80th birthday! We’ve been through a lot together over the years, and you’ve always been there for me. May God continue to bless you,” Raila posted on Twitter.

Raila was among high-ranking dignitaries who graced the Siaya senator’s thanksgiving service and birthday celebration at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka was the chief guest at the colourful ceremony attended by several governors and a host of MPs, Senators and Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

“Joining my elder brother Dr Oburu Oginga Odinga as he celebrated his 80 years – and as his Chief guest – was a true honour. I thank him and the people who welcomed all of us with open hearts.

“Happy birthday my brother and friend. Your strength and committed devotion – not just to your family but to the people of Kenya – is inspiring. God’s blessings,” Kalonzo wrote on Twitter.

The governors who attended the event included James Orengo (Siaya), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) and Mutula Kilonzo Junior (Makueni).

Oburu is the first-born son of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, who served as Kenya’s first vice president, between December 12, 1964 and April 14, 1966.

Happy birthday to Oburu Odinga!
