Professor Jay reveals family sold his property while he was in a vegetative state

Tanzanian rapper and politician Joseph ‘Professor Jay’ Haule has revealed that his family sold off his properties while he was hospitalized and fighting for his life, leaving him to rebuild his wealth from scratch.

“I’m starting over. Since I got sick, my siblings sold most of my assets to save my life. I don’t regret it because the most important thing is that I’m alive today, even when the chances of survival were slim. You can always rebuild wealth,” the 48-year-old shared.

The former Mikumi MP explained that the sales were done without his knowledge, as his family made decisions on his behalf while he was incapacitated.

“I was unaware they were selling my properties. These decisions were made by my family since I spent most of my time in a vegetative state,” he added.

Professor Jay fell critically ill at his home on January 24, 2022. His wife rushed him to Lugalo Military Hospital before his condition worsened, prompting a transfer to Muhimbili National Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He spent 462 days in the hospital battling kidney failure, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, among other ailments. During his treatment, he was unconscious for most of the time, relying on tubes for breathing, eating, and excretion.

Reflecting on his near-death experience, Professor Jay revealed that he spent 127 days in ICU and was told he had only a 40 percent chance of survival. In a moment of despair, he even attempted to end his suffering by removing his dialysis tubes. “I had lost all hope of living. I thought it was only a matter of time before I died,” he recounted in a previous interview.

As he continues to recover, the legendary rapper has announced his intention to run for the Mikumi MP seat in Tanzania’s 2025 general election. By then, he will have turned 50.
