Pastor Kanyari’s foray into TikTok has been a whirlwind of activity and controversy. The preacher has frequently gone live with Kenyan TikTokers, but one recent encounter sparked outrage.
A female TikToker visited his church and presented him with an unexpected gift during a service – a packet of condoms. This act drew heavy criticism on social media.

Kanyari responded with an apology, expressing his shock and disapproval of the gift. He emphasized his lengthy service to God and his disbelief at such an offering on the altar.
He also explained that the woman, a TikTok follower unfamiliar with church customs, was not to blame for his initial reaction of accepting the gift.
Despite the controversy, Kanyari revealed that his TikTok presence has been financially rewarding, generating over Ksh 400,000. Live gifting, a popular method of monetization on the platform, is likely a significant contributor to this income.
