Nonini Terminates Membership With MCSK (Statement)

Legendary musician Nonini has expressed his disenchantment with the Music Copyright Society of Kenya and gone a notch higher by terminating his membership with them. The musician made the decision upon insinuating that he’s already had enough of MCSK.

MCSK is a platform where artists get part of their revenue from through the ring back tunes.- but they’ve been on the spotlight for underpaying Kenyan artists.

Nonini’s statement, signed by recently appointed MCSK CEO Ezekiel Mutua, confirmed that he’s no longer a member from 18th May.

The musician continued to state his main reason of making the move-terming MCSK as a deal-breaker that won’t change nor work.

”Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Moving on to something that actually works. ???? #Mgenge2ru”

Other artists like Willy Paul, Khaligraph Jones, Sauti Sol have complained about MCSK paying them peanuts as royalties. Some of them have received as little as Ksh 2500.

This is a probable reason why some like Nonini have opted to ride solo and focus on other things. Will we witness more artists pulling out of the institution?
