Mwalimu Rachel: The reasons I regret spending millions on a vacation house in Malindi

Consider the case of media personality Rachel Muthoni, known as Mwalimu Rachel, who has a cautionary tale to share.

Rachel, a former presenter at NRG, made a significant investment in a luxurious holiday home in Malindi, anticipating it to be a wise investment. Unfortunately, reality painted a different picture, leaving her filled with remorse over the hefty sum she spent.

“I deeply regret purchasing that holiday home in Malindi. There’s no doubt about it,” she lamented during an interview with Nairobi News. “It’s painful to think about how much money I squandered on it.”

Although the house itself is stunning, Rachel’s satisfaction ends there. She admits to neglecting proper research and instead relied on someone else’s advice before making the purchase.

Now, she finds herself owning a spacious property where she has spent merely two nights. “It’s a grand residence, and yet, I’ve barely utilized it. I’m seriously contemplating selling it,” she confessed. “Just the thought of it makes me nauseous. All that money tied up in something I hardly use.”

When asked about the source of funds for the purchase, Rachel revealed it was from various gigs she undertook between 2018 and 2019, pooling together the earnings for what she believed was a savvy investment.

“My finances were robust at that time, but now, that money is lying dormant. It accumulated from several gigs, and I gathered the funds around 2018-2019,” she explained.

Rachel’s experience underscores the reality that financial wealth does not guarantee immunity from poor decisions. Sometimes, thorough research and careful consideration can prevent a world of regret.
