Content creator Murugi Munyi revealed that she earned Sh10 million from content creation in 2023, equivalent to Sh833,333 per month if she were still working a traditional job. Munyi left her 9-to-5 job five years ago to pursue content creation full-time.

Despite the lucrative nature of content creation, Munyi notes that income can be inconsistent. She said, “I might not know the exact amount I earned last year, but my assistant Nancy estimates it to be Sh10 million. However, being a content creator doesn’t guarantee a steady income every month. There are periods when companies and brands aren’t spending, or their budgets haven’t been released yet.”

Munyi elaborated further, saying, “One month, you might earn Sh200,000, then have a dry spell, and the next month you could make Sh1.3 million, followed by Sh400,000 the month after. The income is cyclical.”

Before her content creation career, Murugi worked at British American Tobacco (BAT). She eventually quit because working in the same department as her husband became uncomfortable for them. The couple decided that she would leave the job since her husband’s position was more lucrative.

Afterward, Murugi joined RedHouse PR agency, where she earned a monthly salary of Sh200,000. Reflecting on that time, she said, “It was fantastic earning Sh200,000 with a financially stable husband. In a marriage, having a partner who provides financial security offers peace of mind. Knowing I could quit and find another job without worrying about ending up in a difficult situation was reassuring.”
