Mother Dies From a Broken Heart Three Days After Her Husband Passes

Sharon Dann, a 54-year-old carer, tragically lost her life just three days before her husband Wayne succumbed to cancer. The couple, married for nearly a decade and inseparable since, were struck down by a cruel twist of fate.

Wayne, 57, had a history of cancer, previously undergoing treatment for a growth in his groin. Unfortunately, the cancer returned, spreading to his lungs in October 2023. Despite surgery and further efforts in February, doctors discovered a sarcoma requiring chemotherapy.

Sharon, utterly devoted to Wayne, refused to leave his side when his condition worsened in March. For six days, she remained by his bedside, the stress and fear of losing him taking a heavy toll.

Their daughter, Ellie Steward, described their bond as one of immense love and laughter. “They were soulmates,” Ellie said, “each other’s person in every way.”

The emotional burden proved too much for Sharon. Just days before Wayne’s passing, Ellie received a frantic call – her mother was struggling to breathe. Rushed to the hospital, Ellie learned the shocking truth: Sharon had suffered broken heart syndrome, a rare condition triggered by extreme emotional stress that weakens the heart muscle.

Placed in a medically induced coma, Sharon sadly passed away on April 4th. Wayne followed just three days later, on April 7th.

Ellie, heartbroken by this double tragedy, hopes sharing her story will raise awareness of broken heart syndrome and encourage those grieving to prioritize their own well-being.

“They were inseparable,” Ellie shared. “My mom was incredibly caring, and my step-dad always brought laughter. Even at the end, he was making us smile.”

Ellie emphasized the condition’s rarity, especially at Sharon’s age. “It wasn’t a surprise,” she admitted. “I knew how scared Mom was of being alone.”

Her message is a poignant one: “Be kind to yourself. Grieve, but take care of yourself too.”
