Mombasa Governor Nassir Vows To Fight Muguka Ban Despite Government Legalising

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Nassir is facing a heated controversy after a raid by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers on his businesses. Nassir claims the raid was retaliation for his recent ban on muguka, a stimulant controversial for its health effects, in Mombasa County.

The governor vehemently denied any wrongdoing and questioned the legitimacy of the raid. He stated that he contacted KRA superiors who were unaware of any such operation. Nassir views this as harassment intended to pressure him into reversing the muguka ban.

“This only strengthens my resolve,” Nassir declared. “We will not be intimidated.”

Mombasa was a frontrunner in outlawing muguka due to concerns about its impact on public health, particularly among young people. Governor Nassir has agreed to participate in a meeting arranged by President William Ruto to discuss the issue.

“We respect the President’s initiative,” Nassir said. “We will reiterate our stance. We will not allow a harmful product to be forced upon our people. We prioritize the well-being of our youth over financial gain.”
