Moi Uni student electrocuted to death
A fourth-year student of Moi University, Shelton Ochieng Odhiambo, died after being electrocuted while climbing an avocado tree near an electricity wire. The 23-year-old was rushed to the University health center, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said that cases of electrocution have been on the rise in recent months, and officials blame the trend on illegal power connections.
In separate incidents, two other people were also electrocuted. In Ruiru, a 24-year-old man was electrocuted as he tried to warm water and take a shower. His body was found on the floor of his house as he held a water heater.
In Langata, Nairobi, a 30-year-old man was electrocuted in his house while he was cooking using an electric burner. Police who arrived at the scene said that the connection of the burner was faulty and is suspected to have caused the electrocution.
The bodies of all three victims have been moved to the mortuary.
Authorities are urging people to be careful around electricity and to only use properly-wired appliances. They also warn against climbing trees or other objects that could come into contact with power lines.
