He accused his political opponents of spreading these rumors, which he said began after he won the Makadara MP seat.

“Politics is indeed a dirty game! Faking a death certificate while I am still alive! All these were mere propaganda, smear campaigns, and diversionary tactics aimed at tarnishing my reputation.

“These tactics started immediately after I won the Makadara by-election in 2011, with the goal of triggering another by-election,” Sonko wrote on X.

He noted that despite having addressed the issue previously, his detractors continue to use the same falsehoods to damage his reputation.

Sonko clarified that the matter was resolved in court through an appeal he filed in 2001.

As a result of the appeal, he was acquitted of the offense of escaping from prison.

“I was taken to Kibra Court the same year, and all accusations were proven to be mere propaganda.

“The only evidence presented in the escape case was successfully appealed in the High Court’s Misc. Appeal case number 80 of 2001, leading to my release from prison.”
