Media personality Betty Kyallo has shared her journey of leaving her TV job during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties that followed regarding her next move.

Speaking on the Chipukeezy show, the mother of one revealed that even though she was already running her salon business, she was unsure whether it would be enough to sustain her financial obligations.

Financial Struggles and Uncertainty

Betty Kyallo explained:

“I was not paid when I left my last TV job, and I did not know what to do next, despite having a salon business. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I did not know how I would manage to pay my bills.

It’s not easy to run a business, especially when you have to pay your employees on time. There are many challenges, and there have been times when I’ve considered quitting. The competition in the business is tough, and many people are doing the same thing.”

Relocating and Expanding Her Business

In a past interview, Betty said she kept changing locations of her salon business since it had been struggling.

Betty Kyallo’s salon ‘Flair by Betty’ opened to the public on April 14, 2018, at the FCB Mihrab building on Lenana Road.

She later announced moving her business venture to a more spacious and luxurious location.

In June 2020, Flair By Betty moved to Rose Avenue and its launch was graced by Mama Ida Odinga.

“Just strategize. Get with it, do not stop things, especially business, because Corona is here with us, just take caution,” Betty said at that time.

It then moved to Rose Avenue and George Padmore Road junction in Kilimani.

Betty said launching the new location was a gift to herself as she celebrated her 34th birthday.

Betty also runs ‘After Shave by Flair,’ a high-end Barbershop located in the Upper Hill area.

It was officially launched in January 2021.

She also launched a barber shop in Meru in May 2023.

Addressing Financial Pressures

In a recent video, Betty Kyallo addressed the financial pressures that she, like many others, faces despite her public image of success.

“Most times, life is hard. Even when you guys check out Betty is slaying and opening business after the other and you sometimes think I am doing well. Most times, some of the struggles you go through are the same I also go through,” she said.

At the time, a friend she owed money had threatened to expose her on social media if the debt was not repaid promptly.

“It’s okay to have a debt. This person calls me and threatens to expose me on social media if I did not pay,” Kyallo shared.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Betty Kyallo is an inspiration to many young women who are pursuing their dreams. She is a successful entrepreneur and a role model for others.
